The storm led to waterlogging in low-lying areas and traffic disruptions across parts of the city.

Key areas including Krishi Bhavan, Rafi Marg, and Udyog Bhawan were lashed by intense rain and winds, while Safdarjung reported two severe thundersqualls with wind speeds reaching 82 kmph and 104 kmph. The storm led to waterlogging in low-lying areas and traffic disruptions across parts of the city.

In several locations, strong winds uprooted trees and scattered debris, posing risks to commuters. Firozeshah Road was among the worst affected, with visuals showing residents and motorists scrambling for cover amid blinding dust and torrential rain.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had earlier forecast thunderstorms and high-speed winds in the region and issued an advisory urging residents to stay indoors for safety. According to IMD officials, the city witnessed wind speeds ranging between 80 and 100 kmph during the early morning downpour.
Prior to Sunday’s rainfall, Delhi had been reeling under a prolonged heatwave. On Thursday, temperatures soared beyond 43°C in many areas, with Ayanagar recording the highest at 45.0°C, followed by Palam at 44.5°C, Ridge at 43.6°C, Lodhi Road at 43.4°C, and Safdarjung at 43.3°C.

The IMD had earlier warned of continued heatwave conditions in the capital, cautioning that maximum temperatures could reach as high as 45°C. However, the overnight rain brought a welcome change, offering significant respite to residents from the summer heat.
