The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Delhi for Monday, warning people about possible light to moderate rainfall, thunderstorms, and strong winds that could blow at speeds of 30 to 40 kilometres per hour.

On Sunday, the highest temperature in Delhi reached 36.2 degrees Celsius, which is 1.3 degrees lower than the usual average for this time of year. The lowest temperature recorded was 28.4 degrees Celsius. The humidity level was quite high, reaching 78 per cent at 5.30 pm. Delhi also experienced a little rainfall, only 0.1 mm on Saturday, along with gentle winds, news agency PTI reported.

According to the Central Pollution Control Board, Delhi’s air quality on Sunday was in the ‘satisfactory’ category, with an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 98 measured at 4 pm. An AQI between 51 and 100 is considered satisfactory, while anything under 50 is regarded as good.

The weather department said that Delhi is likely to see a high temperature of about 34 degrees Celsius on Monday, with the low expected to be around 27 degrees Celsius. The IMD also noted that the conditions are becoming favourable for the southwest monsoon to move into Delhi, Chandigarh, and other areas of northwest India in the next two days. The monsoon is likely to reach Delhi by June 24.

The IMD also mentioned that the southwest monsoon is likely to advance into the remaining parts of the North Arabian Sea, Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, West Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu within the next two days.

In addition, heavy to very heavy rain is expected between June 23 and 26 in parts of northwest India, such as Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, and the Konkan and Goa areas. Gujarat may experience extremely heavy rainfall on June 22, while eastern Madhya Pradesh is likely to receive very heavy rain on June 23 and 24.
