The new Delta Camera app is here to transform your iPhone into a classic Game Boy camera that captures your photos in 8-bit aesthetics, similar to the iconic experiences from almost 40 years ago.

This is the latest creation from the brilliant minds that gave the world the Delta emulator, the app that can replicate the Game Boy, Game Boy Advance, and the Nintendo DS experience.

With this latest app, users may enjoy a wide range of features brought by the Game Boy Camera in its previous iteration, taking advantage of the modern technologies available on the iPhone’s hardware.

Delta Camera App For iPhones Now in Beta

Delta and GBA4iOS creator, Riley Testut, is back with another retro experience for users, one that is familiar for whoever had the Game Boy camera. AltStore shared the news via Bluesky, announcing that the Delta Camera app is now available to download so that users can try out the latest beta experience for the iPhone.

By default, users would be given the Delta GBA emulator skin in purple to control the camera app, almost replicating the original experience from 37 years ago when it was first released by Nintendo. The app also incorporates many modern features that the iPhone brings to the table to replicate the retro Game Boy camera experience for users to enjoy.

Apart from the regular photos it could take, users may switch between the front and rear lens to capture the black and white shots that the Game Boy camera takes. In addition to this, Delta Camera also offers a way to take panoramic images like the original one, and it is still stitching the photos together instead of a continuous capture.

Moreover, AltStore also revealed that the Delta Camera app features manual exposure and zoom capabilities for the retro experience, including its support for iOS’s Camera Control feature.

Classic Game Boy’s Camera For iPhones

The original Game Boy camera only features a resolution of 0.001 megapixels, but users need not worry about that as the new app takes full advantage of the iPhone’s 48MP main lens, particularly for more modern devices like the iPhone 16. Additionally, users would be given a preview of the shots they take in greyscale.

That being said, users no longer need to have the Game Boy printer to get a copy of their photos as it would be available to save on their Photos library.

The beta of Delta Camera app is available to download on their Patreon website, but the catch is that users need to have Patreon accounts. They also need to join the “Riley + Shane” community to get access.

Testut revealed that its public release version would be available later this year, but he did not share any specifics on the retro Game Boy camera app’s arrival.
