The Winner

The Jefferson

The Jefferson’s Presidental Suite. The Jefferson, Washington DC

Sitting near the White House in a restored 1920s apartment block, The Jefferson is a masterclass in understated luxury. Since transitioning into a hotel in 1955, it’s been home to massive rooms and suites featuring period furnishings, along with an original skylight that still brings plenty of sunlight into the lobby. Guests of the hotel don’t need to travel far for a fantastic meal thanks to the seasonal bites at The Greenhouse, and they can steal a few quiet moments at its cozy bar, Quill, while sipping a nightcap. This isn’t the Jefferson’s first time at the top—readers also voted it No. 1 in 2024, and for good reason. “Impeccable customer service. One of the best hotels we have ever stayed at,” one guest raved. “Highly, highly recommend!”

Mexico draws travelers for its irresistible regional cuisines, colorful textiles and art, and millennia-old traditions—all of which are well-reflected in the country’s eclectic hotels. And while there’s been a steady clip of new openings across the country—from Oaxaca to Cancun—when it comes to city hotels, T+L readers clearly have their favorite destinations. Each of this year’s character-rich WBA honorees can be found in two cities that consistently rank among our readers’ favorites in Mexico: San Miguel de Allende and Mexico City (CDMX).

What Readers Loved

Three CDMX hotels ranked among readers’ top picks this year. The most recent debut among them, Andaz Mexico City Condesa (No. 5), began welcoming guests in 2023. Drawing inspiration from the style of Modernist architect Luis Barragán, its common spaces and 213 rooms are all about sleek lines and strong colors. For artistically inclined guests, that’s just the start. The property’s position between the La Condesa and Roma neighborhoods means several of the city’s compelling galleries, including Mooni and OMR, are just a stroll away. A bit further west in the tony Polanco neighborhood, the 35-room Las Alcobas (No. 2), part of Marriott’s Luxury Collection, also taps into the city’s art scene with a tour delving into the lives of painters Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo. The concierge team can also design personalized experiences that speak to guests’ interests, whether they’re keen to learn about Aztec civilization on a private excursion to Teotihuacan or eat their way through the city on a taco crawl.

Over in San Miguel de Allende—the No. 1 city this year according to readers, that’s roughly 3.5 hours northeast in the highlands of Guanajuato—WBA voters praised two hotels that imbue the guest experience with true Mexican culture at every turn. Casa de Sierra Nevada, A Belmond Hotel (No. 3), which topped this list in 2023, is all about delivering next-level service. “One of the best hotel experiences I have ever had,” wrote one reader. “They went above and beyond over and over again. I can’t recommend them enough.” Part of that top-tier hospitality stems from the staff’s ability to maximize every touch point, from leaving a set of paper bookmarks atop a guest’s reading stack to guiding through the local market before a hands-on lesson in creating traditional recipes.

The second SMA hotel is this year’s winner—a reader-darling that has topped the list two other times in recent years. Find out below what gives it such staying power.

Rosewood San Miguel de Allende

It takes a truly spectacular property to earn back-to-back wins in the World’s Best Awards, especially in the hotel categories. But for the second consecutive year, this clutch of 67 rooms, suites, and residences accomplished that feat. Design elements like hand-carved furniture and colorful artwork reflect the town’s storied craft traditions, which guests can learn about further during workshops and classes with local artisans. Those who want to get out into the countryside can opt for a sunrise hot-air balloon adventure or guided horseback ride led by local ranchers. (Kids can join in the fun and learning through crafts, farm visits, and cooking classes.) “We stayed on our 50th anniversary, and the Rosewood people helped us plan activities and were awesome,” raved one WBA voter. “The food, bar, and spa were all excellent. We could not have had a better stay!”

Our Readers’ 25 Favorite Hotel Brands

Oberoi Hotels & Resorts (No. 2) was praised as much for its luxurious accommodations as its lavish service. Auberge Resorts Collection emerged as the top U.S.-based option, though its reach is increasingly global. Belmond (No 9) has broadened its offerings to include trains, river cruises and safaris, giving loyalists new ways to explore the world while keeping its core core hotels firmly at the core of its core experience. In the past year alone, it’s added properties in South Carolina (The Dunlin); Florence, Italy (Collegio alla Querce); and Geneva, Switzerland (The Woodward) to its expanding portfolio of luxury hotels. The brand has plans to debut two dahabeya (Melouk and Malekat) for Nile River cruises this fall and its first U.K. hotel scheduled to open in Mayfair District in 2027. It List honoree Regent Santa Monica, and debut the brand-new beachfront Regent Bali Canggu.

At Travel + Leisure, we have high standards for our hotel stays, and so do our readers. Individual properties are often travelers’ most immediate touchpoints, but hotel brands play an integral role in shaping both the on-site experience and the hospitality industry at large. The luxury hotel titans appearing on this year’s list of readers’ favorite hotel brands have earned the admiration and loyalty of T+L readers by surpassing expectations at every turn, from top-tier accommodations to personalized service that makes every guest feel at home.

How Voting Works Every year for our World’s Best Awards survey, T+L asks readers to weigh in on travel experiences around the globe—to share their opinions on the top hotels, resorts, hotel brands, cities, islands, cruise ships, spas, airlines, and more. Nearly 180,000 T+L readers completed the 2025 survey. A total of more than 657,000 votes were cast across over 8,700 properties (hotels, cities, cruise lines, etc.). What Readers Loved

Throughout Asia, the culture of hospitality goes far beyond politeness and respect. Guests are treated like revered family members, with warm, anticipatory service that feels attentive, but never overbearing. Combine that with a growing luxury market—which is opening new skyscrapers at rapid clip while also reinvigorating historic buildings—and it tracks that roughly half of readers’ favorite hotel brands (including eight of the top 10) are headquartered in the region.

Take Oberoi Hotels & Resorts (No. 2) for example. The India-based brand, which celebrated its 90th anniversary in 2024, was praised as much for its luxurious accommodations as its lavish service. “While in India, we stayed at two Oberoi locations: the Rajvilas in New Delhi and the Amarvilas in Agra,” shared one WBA voter. “Both exceeded our expectations. The villas were exceptional in their furnishings, amenities and service. We were pampered beyond belief.” And it shows no signs of slowing down, with plans to debut two dahabeya (Melouk and Malekat) for Nile River cruises this fall and its first U.K. hotel scheduled to open in London’s Mayfair District in 2027.

Taiwan’s Regent (No. 3) also continues to build on its long legacy of infusing properties with a sense of timeless elegance. Since its 2018 acquisition by IHG Hotels & Resorts, the 55-year-old brand has been able to restore grand dames in both the French Riviera (Carlton Cannes) and Hong Kong’s Victoria Harbor (Regent Hong Kong), return to the Americas with 2025 It List honoree Regent Santa Monica, and debut the brand-new beachfront Regent Bali Canggu.

American brands had a solid showing, too. Coming in at No. 7, Auberge Resorts Collection emerged as the top U.S.-based option, though its reach is increasingly global. In the past year alone, it’s added properties in South Carolina (The Dunlin); Florence, Italy (Collegio alla Querce); and Geneva, Switzerland (The Woodward) to its expanding portfolio. As T+L readers attest, one of the brand’s strongest assets is its ability to fully embody a destination in its design, culinary offerings, and experiences for guests of all ages. “I’ve consistently been impressed by how Auberge hotels deliver a true sense of place,” shared one person. “The decor always features thoughtful touches from local designers or artisans, and the restaurants do a fantastic job of highlighting regional ingredients and recipes, even on the kids’ menus. I had the best time learning to make tortillas and salsa during my stay at Etéreo!”

But don’t count readers’ favorite European brands out, especially given that they represent some of the most well-rounded hospitality experiences around. London-based Belmond (No. 9) has steadily broadened its offerings to include trains, river cruises, and safaris, giving its loyalists new ways to explore the world while keeping hotels firmly at its core. “Incomparable experiences at Belmond hotels,” enthused a T+L reader. “Every hotel has amazing food and drinks, stunning locations, and magical vibes.”

Still, an Asian brand was the category’s standard bearer in T+L readers’ eyes. Below, find out how Singapore’s Capella Hotels & Resorts claimed the top spot for a third year in a row.

When T+L readers plan their trips to Asia, they’re relying on trusted hotel companies with deep roots in the region to maximize their experience. In the 2025 survey, five Capella properties made this year’s list of the readers’ favorite hotels in the world, and its Sydney stunner claimed the No. 1 spot on the best city hotels in Australia and New Zealand. Among its hallmarks, according to readers, are its hotels’ prime locations, the staffs’ next-level hospitality, and the brand’s knack for celebrating local heritage. “Capella embraces the culture, art, and cuisine of the destination,” wrote one voter. They added that “their service engaged at the emotional level.” And as with several of the other reader-loved brands, Capella has big plans for the future. Its eight existing hotels in mainland China, Thailand, Taiwan, Vietnam, Australia, and its home country of Singapore will be joined by new additions in Macau, Japan, and Saudi Arabia—and that’s just what’s slated within the next year.

Nashville’s hotel scene has exploded in recent years, with more than 50 hotels opening since 2020, allowing Music City to host nearly 17 million visitors in 2024. And while it’s true this city’s music scene is where it really shines, visitors are getting to know all the other parts of Nashville that make it great, including its art scene, rooftop lounges, and historic landmarks. Nashville even has its own version of the Parthenon, which houses one of the city’s best museums, ensuring there really is an activity to please everyone who visits.

That includes the No. 2 hotel, the Thompson Nashville, located just a few blocks off Music Row, with its own pastel-hued roofdeck looking down on it all. It also speaks to the No. 4 pick, the 1 Hotel Nashville, located just a block off Broadway and home to Harriet’s Rooftop, its restaurant and lounge. But nothing in Nashville grabbed T+L readers’ attention over the last year quite like The Joseph, a Luxury Collection Hotel, a downtown spot that takes things up a notch with a rooftop pool that offers the best view in town.

Visiting Australia and New Zealand often involves flying into the countries’ largest airports: Sydney and Auckland, respectively. Fortunately, these hubs are not only gateways to their countries writ large, but to thriving urban centers with world-class dining, dynamic cultural institutions, and polished hotels that help guests make the most of their time away from home. According to Travel + Leisure readers, the best hotels in Australia and New Zealand are situated within bustling downtown districts, where the cities’ best sights and experiences are within easy reach.

How Voting Works Every year for our World’s Best Awards survey, T+L asks readers to weigh in on travel experiences around the globe—to share their opinions on the top hotels, resorts, cities, islands, cruise ships, spas, airlines, and more. What Readers Loved

The phrase “central business district” might conjure automatic associations with banking institutions, drab architecture, and a general lack of cultural charm, but Sydney and Auckland prove that there can be so much more to a city’s downtown scene. Perhaps that’s why—yet again—all of this year’s reader favorite hotels can be found within the bounds of these cities’ CBDs.

Sydney sweeps this year’s top three. Here, guests are in close proximity to premier attractions, including the Sydney Harbor (with its iconic bridge and opera house), the Royal Botanic Garden, Symphony Orchestra, and more. Past year’s winners Four Seasons Hotel Sydney (No. 1 in 2024) and Park Hyatt Sydney (No. 1 in 2023) remain reader favorites, coming in at No. 2 and No. 3 in the 2025 survey. The latter’s waterfront positioning is particularly enviable, since many of its tastefully decorated 155 rooms and suites offer balconies with harbor views. As one WBA voter enthused, “The outdoor spaces are unbeatable. It’s the best location of any city hotel.”

T+L readers were enamored with a pair of hotels in Auckland’s CBD for similar reasons. “We loved this space for watching boats, morning breakfast, spacious rooms, and cocktails outside,” said one voter of Hilton Auckland (No. 5). Guests of the hotel are well-positioned for a visit to the New Zealand Maritime Museum, which offers scenic sails in addition to its rotating exhibitions. Also nearby is Sky Tower to take in 360-degree views from the 60th-floor Sky Deck, which sits just over 600 feet above street level.

The winning hotel on this year’s list is also the newest, having debuted in 2023, but it’s already established itself as one of the region’s greats in WBA voters’ eyes. Read on to find out why.

The Winner

Capella Sydney

It took the Singapore-based Capella Hotel Group seven years to transform Sydney’s historic Department of Education building into a serene, 192-room hotel—its first outside of Asia—but the effort is paying dividends in WBA voters’ eyes. The ground-floor art collection introduces guests to Australia’s dynamic art scene, with works from such Indigenous artists as Judy Watson and Otis Hope Carey, but to give travelers an even deeper understanding of Sydney’s cultural might, the hotel curates an impressive array of experiences. Walking tours deliver unexpected insights into everything from the city’s coffee culture to its architecture and history, including its Aboriginal heritage. As one reader summarized, it “should not be missed!”
