19-year-old dies after 2 drivers shoot at each other on highway in Macomb County
A 19-year-old man has died after two drivers shot at each other Saturday evening on Interstate 94 in Macomb County, Michigan. Michigan State Police are working to find the motive of the shooting and the relationship between the two vehicles. The family identified the victim as Alvin “Lil Mark” Johnson and has organized a GoFundMe account.
Officials say the drivers of a black Chevrolet Malibu and a silver vehicle fired shots at each other at 12:55 p.m. on I-94 near 10 Mile Road.
The driver of the Chevrolet then rear-ended a GMC Acadia, and the motorist of the silver vehicle continued driving east on the freeway. The drivers of the Chevrolet and GMC pulled onto the right shoulder, and one of the Chevrolet passengers carried a pistol up the embankment and threw it before returning to the Chevrolet, police say.
The pistol was recovered, and St Clair Shores Emergency Medical Services transported two people who were in the Chevrolet to the hospital for medical treatment. Officials say there were no other reported injuries.
Over a mile of the highway was shut down for most of Saturday as Michigan State Police investigated.
Lieutenant Mike Shaw said detectives are currently working to find the motive of the shooting and the relationship between the two vehicles.
Michigan State Police confirmed on Tuesday that the 19-year-old from Detroit, who was an occupant in the Chevrolet, died at a hospital. The family identified the victim as Alvin “Lil Mark” Johnson and has organized a GoFundMe account.
Anyone who witnessed the shooting is asked to call 855-MICH TIP or Crime Stoppers at 800-SPEAK UP.

Teen dead in downtown Minneapolis shooting near reserve bank
A 14-year-old boy is dead after a shooting in downtown Minneapolis Monday night. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office identified him as Thor Walsh. Police believe a group of around 12 teenagers was in the area, and a fight broke out. One of the teens pulled out a gun and shot Walsh, according to Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara.
Officers responded to the shooting on the 90 block of Hennepin Avenue South near the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis just after 9 p.m.
Police there found the boy on the ground with at least one gunshot wound. The boy was taken to the hospital, where he later died. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office identified him as Thor Walsh.
Investigators believe a group of around 12 teenagers was in the area, and a fight broke out.
At one point during the altercation, one of the teens pulled out a gun and shot Walsh, according to Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara.
“Every incident that we have is tragic. But of course, whenever there’s children or young people involved, it’s that much more difficult,” O’Hara said.
No arrests have been made.
“The problem here is when teenagers have guns,” O’Hara said in a news conference late Monday following the shooting. “Instead of settling a fight with fists, this has now turned deadly, taking away the life of a teenager and changing others forever.”
He says the boy was known to police, and it was not the first time he was the victim of a shooting.
A WCCO photojournalist at the scene captured video of several shell casings on the ground, a piece of clothing and at least two masks.

Last week in Minneapolis, four people were killed and one more was hurt in a shooting police say may have been gang-related. Police do not believe Monday night’s shooting and last week’s spree are connected.
Michigan bowling coach identified as shooter in suspected murder-suicide involving teen, sheriff says
Ryne Jacob Leist, 33, shot and killed Gwendolyn Fay Smith, 17, of Temperance, before shooting himself. Sheriff Troy Goonough said Leist “made entry” into the home before shooting the teen multiple times. Smith’s death was ruled a homicide and Leist’s death a suicide.
The sheriff’s office provided an update on Wednesday, identifying the shooter as 33-year-old Ryne Jacob Leist, of Temperance. Authorities allege that on June 14, Leist shot and killed recent Bedford graduate Gwendolyn Fay Smith, 17, of Temperance, before shooting himself. Sheriff Troy Goonough said Leist “made entry” into the home before shooting the teen multiple times.
The two were found dead by Smith’s stepfather in the home. The Lucas County Coroner’s Office ruled Smith’s death a homicide and Leist’s death a suicide.
“The details on their relationship are not clear at this time, although it is believed that Gwendolyn did not consider the relation between the two of them to be romantic,” said Goonough in a press conference.
Goodnough said it was rumored that Leist was employed by Bedford Public Schools as a coach. On Wednesday, he said further investigation found that Leist was paid through the bowling establishment, Forest Few Lanes, and not the school district. Goodnough said the investigation showed Leist resigned from his role before the shooting.
The investigation is ongoing.
Goodnough said the shooting is not related to the incident on Tuesday in Raisinville Township. Two teens, both age 16, were found shot to death outside a vehicle. The sheriff says the manner of death in that case is pending a report from the coroner’s office.

Minneapolis police investigating city’s first fatal shooting in more than 2 months
Davione Collins, 27, of Maple Grove, Minnesota was shot in the neck. Police say he was found inside a vehicle that had crashed into the garage entrance of an apartment building. This is the first shooting death in Minneapolis since Feb. 7. Chief Brian O’Hara credits the decrease in deadly crime to dozens of federal prosecutions against gang members, community-based organizations and the work of his officers. The city hasn’t had a recruit class that large since the ’90s, O’hara says.

Minneapolis police say a man died in a shooting outside an apartment on the north side Saturday night, marking the city’s first homicide in two months.
Officers responded to reports of shots fired on the 2000 block of West River Road North around 10:17 p.m.
The Hennepin County medical examiner says 27-year-old Davione Collins of Maple Grove, Minnesota was shot in the neck.
Police say he was found inside a vehicle that had crashed into the garage entrance of an apartment building.
“I’m very used to seeing emergency services of all kinds at this building,” said Noah Branch, who lives in the building. “To have them in the building, ARs drawn, and be like, ‘There’s someone we’re looking for,’ was a little unnerving.”
This is the first shooting death in Minneapolis since Feb. 7 and the first homicide since Feb. 15, according to police.
Chief Brian O’Hara says that’s the longest stretch without a homicide in a decade.
“The city needs it,” he said. “The police department needs it after everything everybody’s been through.”
O’Hara credits the decrease in deadly crime, particularly on the north side, to dozens of federal prosecutions against gang members, community-based organizations and the work of his officers.
“I think this year the difference that we’re seeing is that we’re having an impact on the south side as well, and that is driven by the police officers preventing homeless encampments from forming,” O’Hara said. “They stopped at least two that I know of this weekend.”
The Minneapolis Police Department’s current staffing is about 580 officers, which O’Hara says is more than last year but still low.
He’s optimistic about the incoming class of 40 recruits.
“That’s something we desperately need,” O’Hara said. “The city hasn’t had a recruit class that large since the ’90s.”
No arrests were made in Saturday’s shooting.
Minneapolis police data shows every category of crime is down this year compared to 2024.
