Don’t be misled by last year’s statistics — A.J. Brown is still among the NFL’s elite.

Despite missing four games in 2024, Brown posted over 1,000 receiving yards for the third consecutive season, averaging 83.0 yards per game (fifth-best in the league). His overall production took a slight dip as the offense leaned heavily on Saquon Barkley, but Brown remained Jalen Hurts’ most trusted target in high-leverage moments, particularly on third and fourth down.

Pro Football Focus also factored running backs and tight ends into the equation. Saquon Barkley caught 33 passes last season, and Dallas Goedert led the Eagles in receiving yards during the playoffs.

WR3 Jahan Dotson, a former first-round pick in 2022, is expected to have a larger role next season. In totality, it’s easy to see why the Eagles were ranked so highly.

While the receivers always get the attention in the passing game, this season might feature more of the running backs. Barkley had some success on screen passes, but Will Shipley could be showcased more in the passing game.

PFF did not mention Grant Calcaterra, but his contributions in the passing game should increase after taking over for Goedert when he was hurt. Goedert will still be the third option in the passing game as long as he can stay healthy.

The biggest question for the Eagles is the third receiver, with Dotson, who has had glimpses of great catches but never at a consistent level. Brown and Smith carry the load at receiver and need more production from Dotson or one of the other receivers.

It’s incredible to see the level of talent all around Hurts in the passing game. Philadelphia aims to increase its passing attempts in 2025 to alleviate the workload on Barkley, who handled the ball over 300 times during the season.

Experience in the past with throwing it too much has not proven beneficial for the Eagles’ offense. A more mature offense and increased stability in the offensive system should help make the passing game run smoother in 2025.
