Ahead of nationwide protests this weekend, people gathered in Lancaster County to rally for democracy.People have been holding protests in the square in Maytown every Friday for the past month.This week’s theme was “No Kings,” which matches the rallies and protests scheduled for Saturday.”We’re a democracy. And the concern is the things that have transpired in the last four plus months are distractions and takes away from our democratic form of government,” organizer Scott Albert said.About the ‘No Kings’ demonstrationsThe planned rallies against President Donald Trump will coincide with the military parade in Washington marking the Army’s 250th anniversary, which also falls on Trump’s birthday.The “No Kings” theme was orchestrated by the 50501 Movement, which is made up of Americans who stand for democracy and against what they call the authoritarian actions of the Trump administration. The name 50501 stands for 50 states, 50 protests, one movement.Protests earlier this year have denounced Trump and billionaire adviser Elon Musk, the now former leader of Trump’s Department of Government Efficiency, a government organization designed to slash federal spending.
