There have now been multiple days with shorter-than-normal rotations so far this month, with the previous one on July 10, when the earth spun about 1.36 milliseconds shorter than normal.

Obviously, we don’t notice a difference when the rotation is milliseconds shorter. Scientists are still trying to figure out what’s causing behind this phenomenon, with some suggesting changes to lunar gravitation or the Earth’s core as potential reasons.
