Badlands will mark the sixth installment of the popular sci-fi franchise that kicked off with John McTiernan directing Arnold Schwarzenegger, the late Carl Weathers and Jesse Ventura as commandos being stalked in a jungle by a deadly extraterrestrial hunter.

Elle stars as Thia in the upcoming movie, directed by Dan Trachtenberg, which is scheduled for release on November 7.

In the film she teams up with a young Predator outcast named Dek, played by Dimitrius.

Together, they must survive a deadly planet and search for the ultimate adversary.

Trachtenberg’s new Predator movie will be set ‘sometime in the future.’

He first achieved critical and commercial success with the direct-to-Hulu release of Prey, earning it the title of the most-watched Hulu premiere.

The film took place in the year 1719, revolving around a young Comanche woman forced to battle for her survival against the extraterrestrial hunters known as ‘predators’.

‘It was exciting to tell a story that’s set 300 years in the past, but it was challenging to develop a creature that would feel at once older, but also far more advanced,’ Trachtenberg told Polygon in 2021.

‘I wanted it to feel much more like an alien creature than ever before, much more feral, ferocious, primal, and be less armored. So then all the technological advances needed to be through its arsenal, through its weaponry.’

Despite receiving mixed reviews, the original movie was a fan favorite, grossing $98.3 million worldwide on a budget of $15 million to $18 million.

Guests included Emma Norton, who wore a fitted purple leather dress

Joining attendees on the red carpet, Eliana Su’a looked incredible in a gold bandage dress

Topher Grace looked smart in a grey jacket and jeans

Loren Lott opted for a bright red hooded dress

Elsewhere, LeeAnna Vamp wore a very daring semi-sheer gown with cut-out sections

Bella Balsamo and Alec Gillis were also in attendance

Yvette Aragon put on a quirky display in a fitted lace dress

Carly King looked stunning in a gray gown

Over time, it has been reevaluated and is now considered a classic in the action genre.

Three direct sequels followed: Predator 2 (1990), Predators (2010) and The Predator (2018).

It also gave rise to the Alien vs. Predator films, featuring a crossover with the alien ‘xenomorph’ from Ridley Scott’s 1979 classic Alien.

In total, the Predator franchise has accumulated a global box office revenue of $750.8 million.

Elle and her sister Dakota, 31, recently posed for the October cover of Vanity Fair where they spoke about being former child stars and explained why they never went astray like most Tinseltown vets do.

‘Why aren’t they more…. ‘F***ed up?’ said Elle in the interview in response to how many want to perceive them.

She laughed then added: ‘We’re like, ‘We’re so f***ed up. You don’t even know the half.”

‘Even though we were young in this business, I don’t feel like I missed out on anything. People want us to feel like we missed out. They love that narrative.’

Elle made her big-screen debut in 2001 at the age of two as the younger version of Dakota’s character in I Am Sam.

The Fannings have since formed a production company called Lewellen Pictures

Predator: Badlands shows a new side to Elle Fanning

Elle Fanning plays Weyland-Yutani synthetics Thia and Tessa in the science-fiction action film Predator: Badlands. The 27-year-old made her screen debut in 2001, playing the younger version of her sister Dakota’s character in the drama film I Am Sam. The American star has starred in the Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown and Joachim Trier’s dramedy Sentimental Value. The film follows Dek (Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi), a young Predator outcast from his clan who forms an unlikely alliance with Thia, a synthetic who has lost her legs, and embarks on a treacherous journey in search of the ultimate adversary. It will be released in cinemas on Friday 6 November in the U.S., and on November 13 in the UK and Australia. It is directed by Dan Trachtenberg, who also directed the 2012 film Prey.

Elle Fanning has said she wants to “try it all” as an actress as she takes on her first leading action role in Dan Trachtenberg’s Predator: Badlands.

The 27-year-old made her screen debut in 2001, playing the younger version of her sister Dakota’s character in the drama film I Am Sam, and went on to appear in several other films as a child actress, including Babel and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.

More recently, the American star has starred in the Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown and Joachim Trier’s dramedy Sentimental Value.

In her latest project, Fanning portrays Weyland-Yutani synthetics Thia and Tessa in the science-fiction action film Predator: Badlands.

“I started acting from a young age, and I think my dream has always been to try everything, to explore all genres and not get stuck in one lane. I want to try it all,” Fanning told the PA news agency.

“I like to challenge myself and surprise myself, so this is something I haven’t really done before, which is what really drew me to the project.”

Set in the future on a deadly, remote planet, Predator: Badlands follows Dek (Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi), a young Predator outcast from his clan who forms an unlikely alliance with Thia, a synthetic who has lost her legs, and embarks on a treacherous journey in search of the ultimate adversary.

“I loved what Dan (Trachtenberg, director) did with Prey (2022 Predator film). I thought it was such a brilliant movie,” Fanning said.

“This story felt so fresh and new; I’d never seen anything like it on screen before.

“There were even touches of Star Wars at times. Chewbacca and C-3PO were an inspiration for our backpack situation, and I just loved Dan’s vision.

“And if it’s a good director and a good story, that’s all you need. It doesn’t really matter what lane it’s in, I’m game.”

New Zealand-born Schuster-Koloamatangi said playing Dek was a challenging experience, as his character spoke a different language and required extensive work with motion capture.

“It was an incredible journey,” said the 24-year-old actor.

“It was tough, I’ll be honest. It was a challenging adventure, having to learn a new language, wear a suit for 10 hours a day, and endure the heat all the time. You know, it really limits your movement.

“But I think it helps create the character even more. You use those challenges to bring the role to life. Being a Yautja (Predator) is hard, how they move, how they breathe, the way they interact… it all adds to the character.”

On playing a dual role in the film, Fanning said it was something she always wanted to try.

“That was something else that drew me to play these dual roles. I’d never done that before, like the Parent Trap/Lindsay Lohan scenario, acting against yourself and really making sure to differentiate the two characters,” she explained.

“And that was a great challenge, and I really loved that. Honestly, it was just kind of us on set. Even though it’s such a big world and a large production, it felt very intimate to have this unit, with open communication and collaboration.”

Predator: Badlands will be released in cinemas on Friday

Filming in his home country of New Zealand was a humbling experience for Schuster-Koloamatangi.

“I just felt humbled to be a part of something so big, and to be filming in my home country,” he said.

“Some of the locations we visited aren’t even open to the public, so seeing them for the first time was incredible. I felt really privileged just to be in those spaces.”
