Elon Musk Launches His Own Political Party Weeks After Dramatic Feud With Trump
Elon Musk has launched his own political party in the United States. The billionaire announced the party, dubbed the America Party, on his social media platform X (because where else?), telling followers he made the political move to “give you back your freedom” Musk’s America Party was formed in reaction to the bill that launched his feud with Trump. Musk publicly slammed the bill as an “abomination”, saying it “undermines the work’ of the Department of Government Efficiency, the cost-cutting agency Musk was previously the head of. All political moves will heretofore be decided by social media.
The billionaire announced the party, dubbed the America Party, on his social media platform X (because where else?), telling followers he made the political move to “give you back your freedom”.
“By a factor of 2 to 1, you want a new political party and you shall have it!,” Musk wrote earlier today.
“When it comes to bankrupting our country with waste & graft, we live in a one-party system, not a democracy.”

While the Tesla owner stopped short of revealing further details about the party, it’s an idea he has been toying with for some time, culminating in an X poll on Friday in which he asked if followers “want independence from the two-party… system” of Republicans and Democrats the US.
The poll received 1.25 million votes, with more that 65 per cent of respondents agreeing Musk should “create the America Party”.

Setting aside the fact that political parties are now, for some reason, being founded on social media (can we skip to another timeline?), the timing of Musk’s announcement was notable in that it came a day after Trump signed the very same bill that ignited their dramatic (albeit entertaining) feud last month.
If you recall, Musk publicly slammed the president’s tax and spending bill, which officially passed on Saturday, as an “abomination”, saying it “undermines the work” of the Department of Government Efficiency, the cost-cutting agency Musk was previously the head of.
In the fallout, barbs were traded and Jeffrey Epstien was mentioned, and now Musk’s entirely new political party has entered the fray.
“If this insane spending bill passes, the America Party will be formed the next day,” Musk wrote in response to Trump’s flagship bill.
“Our country needs an alternative to the Democrat-Republican uniparty so that the people actually have a VOICE.”

It remains to be seen whether Musk’s America Party will be successful, but part of me wishes we could go back to the simpler times when all we had to worry about was Musk having a cage fight with Mark Zuckerberg.

Elon Musk announces launch of ‘The America Party’ in latest snub to former pal President Donald Trump
Elon Musk has announced the name of his new political party: The America Party. The South African-born tech entrepreneur has been vocal about his desire to create a third major political party to contest the Republican Party and Democratic Party in the United States. Musk suggested his party could run during the 2026 midterm elections. He spent US$277 million (approx. $422 million) of his own money in support of Donald Trump’s 2024 election campaign.

After pilot-testing the name of his party with a poll on his platform X (formerly Twitter), Musk declared he has now formed The America Party.

“By a factor of 2 to 1, you want a new political party and you shall have it!” Musk said.
“When it comes to bankrupting our country with waste & graft, we live in a one-party system, not a democracy.
“Today, the America Party is formed to give you back your freedom.”
Musk spoke about how he would bring his new US party into power in a post late last week on X.
“One way to execute on this would be to laser-focus on just 2 or 3 Senate seats and 8 to 10 House districts,” he said.
“Given the razor-thin legislative margins, that would be enough to serve as the deciding vote on contentious laws, ensuring they serve the true will of the people.”

Within months of Trump’s re-election, relations soured between the president and the world’s richest person.
Musk has publicly opposed Trump’s ‘Big, Beautiful Bill’ which narrowly passed Senate last week and has critiqued the president’s economic policy on X.
Musk says he is forming new political party after fallout with Trump
The world’s richest man has indicated he wants a party that is fiscally conservative. He has offered few other details about what the party’s platform would be. It’s unclear to what extent Musk has taken steps to legally form the party. The two-party system in the United States has long been criticized by both registered Democrats and registered Republicans, but efforts in the last century to form a third party have shown little success.“Today, the America Party is formed to give you back your freedom,” Musk said on his social media platform, X. The party would initially focus on supporting candidates in just a handful of House and Senate races.
Billionaire Elon Musk said Saturday he is forming a third political party, after a dramatic falling out with Donald Trump, indicating he will make good on threats he made if the president’s domestic policy bill became law.
“When it comes to bankrupting our country with waste & graft, we live in a one-party system, not a democracy,” Trump’s former “first buddy” said on his social media platform, X. “Today, the America Party is formed to give you back your freedom.”
Musk, the largest individual donor to Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign and, until recently, a close adviser to the president who spearheaded his administration’s push to cut government waste, had criticized Trump’s “big beautiful bill” because of estimates that it would add trillions of dollars to the federal deficit.
Musk’s criticism of the bill was the catalyst for a major falling out between the two men last month. That feud seemingly cooled after Musk expressed regret and deleted the most incendiary social media posts he made about Trump, but it reignited in the last several days as the bill neared passage. Trump signed the bill into law on Friday.
It’s unclear to what extent Musk has taken steps to legally form the party, which would be required to register with the Federal Election Commission. The most recent FEC filings showed no indication that has happened.
The world’s richest man has indicated he wants a party that is fiscally conservative and reins in spending but has offered few other details about what the party’s platform would be.
Musk and Trump hold similar views on contemporary social issues. But Musk has argued the Republican policy agenda will increase the debt, calling it “debt slavery.”
The two-party system in the United States has long been criticized by both registered Democrats and registered Republicans, but efforts in the last century to form a third party have shown little success. Billionaire Ross Perot ran for president as an independent in 1992, winning nearly a fifth of the popular vote, but carried no states in the election, which was won by Bill Clinton.
As CNN previously reported, experts in campaign finance and political science say it is financially and legally difficult to create a new party, and voters and candidates are hesitant to join.
Musk said in other posts to social media this week that his party would become an active political force during next year’s midterm elections and that it would initially focus on supporting candidates in just a handful of House and Senate races.
Trump, in turn, has made his own threats against the man who at one point was his most visible adviser. The president said earlier this week the government may reconsider its massive contracts with Musk’s companies and described the Department of Government Efficiency, which the billionaire previously helmed, as a monster that may “go back and eat Elon.”

Tech Mogul Elon Musk Launches ‘America Party’ Amid Escalating Rift With Trump
Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk has officially entered the political arena, announcing the launch of his own political faction, the ‘America Party’ The move comes just a day after he teased the idea on X, the social media platform he owns. Musk’s bold step marks the emergence of a potential third force in US politics and coincides with his escalating feud with former President Donald Trump. Once close political partners, the relationship between Trump and Musk has recently taken a turn. In one striking post, he asserted, “Without me, Trump would have lost the election, and the Republicans would be 51-49 in the Senate… Such ingratitude.”
Elon Musk’s bold step marks the emergence of a potential third force in US politics and coincides with his escalating feud with former President Donald Trump, signaling a significant shake-up within the conservative landscape.
In a post on X on Friday, July 4, which is also celebrated as America’s Independence Day, Musk hinted at the idea of the America Party’s creation.
“Independence Day is the perfect time to ask if you want independence from the two-party (some would say uniparty) system!” he posted.
Announcing the result of the July 4 social media poll, the tech entrepreneur announced, “By a factor of 2 to 1, you want a new political party and you shall have it!”
“Today, the America Party is formed to give you back your freedom,” Musk added.

Musk-Trump Feud
The Tesla CEO attended the President’s Cabinet meetings and was also present during Trump’s inauguration. He was also appointed chief of the DOGE department and campaigned actively for Donald Trump.
However, that alliance and friendship appear to have fractured. Once close political partners, the relationship between Trump and Musk has recently taken a turn.
Musk resigned from the DOGE department and has since been criticising Trump. In one striking post, he asserted, “Without me, Trump would have lost the election, Dems would control the House, and the Republicans would be 51-49 in the Senate… Such ingratitude.”
President Trump also responded sharply, threatening to revoke subsidies and government contracts awarded to Musk’s companies. As per IANS, acknowledging their rift publicly for the first time, President Trump said during an Oval Office meeting with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, “Elon and I had a great relationship. I don’t know if we will anymore. I’m very disappointed in Elon. I’ve helped Elon a lot.”

‘Formed to give you back your freedom’: Elon Musk says he has created a new US political party
Elon Musk, an ex-ally of US President Donald Trump, on July 5 said he had launched a new political party in the United States. Mr Musk has clashed with Mr Trump over the president’s massive domestic spending plan, saying it would explode the US debt. He vowed to do everything in his power to defeat lawmakers who voted for it. It is not clear how much impact the new party would have on the 2026 mid-term elections, or on the presidential vote two years after that. Some observers were quick to point out how third-party campaigns have historically split the vote – as businessman Ross Perot’s independent presidential run in 1992 did when it helped doom George H.W. Bush’s re-election bid, resulting in Democrat Bill Clinton’s victory. The tech tycoon also shared a meme depicting a two-headed snake and the caption “End the Uniparty”
WASHINGTON – Mr Elon Musk, an ex-ally of US President Donald Trump, on July 5 said he had launched a new political party in the United States to challenge what the tech billionaire described as the country’s “one-party system”.
Mr Musk, the world’s richest person and Mr Trump’s biggest political donor in the 2024 election, had a bitter falling out with the president after leading the Republican’s effort to slash spending and cut federal jobs as head of the so-called Department of Government Efficiency.
Mr Musk has clashed with Mr Trump over the president’s massive domestic spending plan, saying it would explode the US debt, and vowed to do everything in his power to defeat lawmakers who voted for it.
Now he has created the so-called America Party, his own political framework, through which to try and achieve that.
“When it comes to bankrupting our country with waste & graft, we live in a one-party system, not a democracy,” the Space X and Tesla boss posted on X, the social media platform that he owns.
“Today, the America Party is formed to give you back your freedom.”
Mr Musk cited a poll – posted on X on July 4, US Independence Day – in which he asked whether respondents “want independence from the two-party (some would say uniparty) system” that has dominated US politics for some two centuries.
The yes-or-no survey earned more than 1.2 million responses.
“By a factor of 2 to 1, you want a new political party and you shall have it!” he posted on July 5.
He also shared a meme depicting a two-headed snake and the caption “End the Uniparty”.
‘Laser-focus’ on vulnerable lawmakers
It is not clear how much impact the new party would have on the 2026 mid-term elections, or on the presidential vote two years after that.
The Trump-Musk feud reignited in dramatic fashion late last month as Mr Trump pushed Republicans in Congress to ram through his massive domestic agenda in the form of the One Big Beautiful Bill.
Mr Musk expressed fierce opposition to the legislation, and ruthlessly attacked its Republican backers for supporting “debt slavery”.
He quickly vowed to launch a new political party to challenge lawmakers who campaigned on reduced federal spending only to vote for the Bill, which experts say will pile an extra US$3.4 trillion (S$4.3 trillion) over a decade onto the US deficit.
“They will lose their primary next year if it is the last thing I do on this Earth,” he said earlier this week.
After Mr Musk heavily criticised the flagship spending Bill – which eventually passed Congress and was signed into law – Mr Trump threatened to deport the tech tycoon and strip federal funds from his businesses.
“We’ll have to take a look,” the president told reporters when asked if he would consider deporting Mr Musk, who was born in South Africa and has held US citizenship since 2002.
On July 4 after posting the poll, Mr Musk laid out a possible political battle plan to pick off vulnerable House and Senate seats and become “the deciding vote” on key legislation.
“One way to execute on this would be to laser-focus on just 2 or 3 Senate seats and 8 to 10 House districts,” he posted on X.
All 435 US House seats are up for grabs every two years, while about one third of the Senate’s 100 members, who serve six-year terms, are elected every two years.
Some observers were quick to point out how third-party campaigns have historically split the vote – as businessman Ross Perot’s independent presidential run in 1992 did when it helped doom George H.W. Bush’s re-election bid, resulting in Democrat Bill Clinton’s victory.
“You are pulling a Ross Perot, and I don’t like it,” one X user wrote to Musk. AFP
