Enquirer names final Cincinnati high school athletes of the week of 2024-25, June 13
Cincinnati.com readers selected the final Enquirer/Beacon Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine Athletes of the Week of the 2024-2025 school year from high school sports action through June 8. Winner certificates through April 11 have been mailed to athletic departments. The remaining certificates will be available at the June 18 EnquireR High School Sports Awards live show at Princeton High School.Here are this week’s winners: Lakota West, Lebanon, Highlands, Covington Catholic, Mercy McAuley, Mason, Sycamore, St. Xavier, Turpin, Grant Harrison, Adrian Smith, Jack Phillabaum, Kamryn Francosky, Sophia Sheidler, D.J. Wojciechowski, Molly Meer-Annie Negovetich.
Winner certificates through April 11 have been mailed to athletic departments. The Enquirer will create the remaining certificates and have them available at the June 18 Enquirer High School Sports Awards live show at Princeton High School. Those not picked up will be mailed to the school athletic departments.
Here are this week’s winners.
Ohio baseball team: Lakota West – The Firebirds are in the Division I state semifinals after wins over Olentangy Liberty and Moeller last week.

Northern Kentucky/Indiana baseball team: Highlands – The Bluebirds were the lone Northern Kentucky baseball team to make the state final 16, where they lost to South Warren 6-5 in extra innings.
Ohio softball team: Lebanon – The Warriors won the Division I softball state title over Centerville, Lebanon’s first softball state championship in history.
Boys spring team: Covington Catholic tennis – After sweeping the state titles in the individual tournament the previous week, the Colonels won the Kentucky High School Athletic Association team title by beating Louisville St. Xavier, Central Hardin, North Oldham and Paul Laurence Dunbar.
Girls spring team: Mercy McAuley track – The Wolves finished in third place in the Division II state meet, scoring 31 total points.
Ohio big-school baseball: Adrian Smith, Lakota West – The senior allowed two hits and two unearned runs with no walks and nine strikeouts in Lakota West’s 3-2 win over Moeller for a Division I regional title.
Ohio small-school baseball: Jack Phillabaum, Summit Country Day – The junior was 3-for-5 with one double, one RBI, one run, and four stolen bases.
Northern Kentucky/Indiana baseball: Brooks Hendrix, Highlands – In the Bluebirds’ 6-5 loss in nine innings to South Warren in the first round of the Kentucky High School Athletic Association state tournament, he had three hits, including a double and home run, two runs scored and two RBIs. His home run tied the game in the seventh inning to send the game to extra innings.
Boys lacrosse: D.J. Wojciechowski, St. Xavier – The senior scored three goals in St. Xavier’s first Ohio High School Athletic Association Division I state title win since 2018.
Girls lacrosse: Kamryn Francosky, Sycamore – The senior goalie made eight saves in Sycamore’s state semifinal loss to Upper Arlington last week.
Ohio softball: Sophia Sheidler, Lebanon – The junior had 19 strikeouts and only allowed one earned run in 16 innings at the DI state tournament, helping the Warriors win their first state championship.
Northern Kentucky/Indiana doubles tennis team: Molly Meer-Annie Negovetich, Batesville – The duo of seniors made it to the Indiana regional tournament, where they lost to a duo from Gibson Southern last Saturday.
Ohio boys track and field: Grant Harrison, New Richmond – He won his second straight OHSAA Division II pole vault state title, clearing a height of 16 feet, 7 inches.
Ohio girls track and field: Claire Iaciofano, Turpin – The junior claimed her second straight DI pole vault state title, matching her personal best of 13 feet, 4 inches in the process.
Ohio girls track and field relay team: Mason – Lily Eagleston, Tori Killens, Taylor Birdsong and Elizabeth Resig closed out the DI state championships by winning the 4×400 meter relay in a new school record of 3:48.69.
