Roy Lamar Curry Jr., 42, was shot at the Texaco station at Skyland Boulevard East near Interstate 59/20, according to the Tuscaloosa violent crimes unit. It happened around 4:15 p.m.
“Other employees on scene reported that a former employee had come to the business and shot Curry for unknown reasons, then stole a vehicle and fled the scene,” said Capt. Jack Kennedy in a press release.
Police, working with cyber investigators and federal authorities, tracked the stolen vehicle to Mississippi and found the suspect traveling near Batesville, a small town about 200 miles from Tuscaloosa.
Kennedy said authorities arrested the suspect, 22-year-old Tyshawn Laquan Thompson, at 10:30 p.m. Friday. He noted that’s just over six hours after the shooting.
“The suspect was taken into custody, as well as the vehicle and physical evidence of the crime,” Kennedy said in the release.
Police said Thompson is being held in the Panola County jail in Mississippi, pending court hearings to return him back to Alabama to face a murder charge.
