Summer travel season is in full swing, and with it comes plenty of advice of what to do, and what not to do, when traveling. Going on vacation is supposed to be a fun experience, but it can quickly turn sour with travel issues. That’s why it’s important to plan ahead and make sure that you’re doing things in advance to make the travel experience run smoothly.

According to AAA, the 2025 summer travel season is on target to break records, even after July 4 travel. As for that July 4 holiday, more than 70 million Americans were expected to travel over the weekend.

Now, a travel expert is sending out a warning about a popular practice that some travelers do with their luggage at airports. This practice is actually a big no-no.

Basically, those who do this are setting themselves up for some potential problems when trying to recover their baggage at the airport. So, keep that in mind when you’re prepping for your net trip.

In a July 2 feature for Express, an airport worker advises travelers to stay away from a certain practice. This worker says that people traveling often attach ribbons to their luggage so that they can easily see the luggage at the carousel, but they shouldn’t do that.

“Ribbons people tie onto their suitcases to help identify them can cause issues with the bag being scanned in the baggage hall,” the worker told Express. “If the bag can’t be scanned automatically it can end up in manual processing, which could mean your bag doesn’t make it to the flight. Take old stickers off the bag, it can cause confusion with the scanning process.”

In some follow-up advice, the worker also said not to bring marzipan. “It turns out this sweet treat is suspiciously similar in density to explosives, posing the risk of matched luggage and unlucky owners being ejected from their flights,” Express states.
