Google has launched a new AI tool to help users find flights more easily while securing the best fares.

The AI-powered search tool called Flight Deals is accessible within Google Flights, the company’s flight search portal where users can compare ticket prices and book tickets either directly through the airlines or other travel platforms.

“Flight Deals is designed for flexible travelers whose number one goal is saving money on their next trip,” Google said in a blog post on Thursday, August 14.

“Instead of playing with different dates, destinations and filters to uncover the best deals, you can just describe when, where and how you’d like to travel — as though you’re talking to a friend — and Flight Deals will take care of the rest,” it added.

Google is rolling out Flight Deals in beta. The AI tool will become available to users in India as well as the United States and Canada next week, as per the company. Users can start using Flight Deals by visiting Google Flights and clicking on the menu in the top-left corner.

The tech giant also clarified that the Google Flights page will continue to be operational alongside Flight Deals. It is also working on adding a new option that lets users filter out economy class tickets for trips in the US and Canada.

How to use Flight Deals?

Flight Deals is powered by Google’s advanced AI, the company said. It did not specify the AI model powering the search tool. The tool has been designed to “understand the nuances of what you’re looking for and identify matching destinations.”

This means that users can submit non-specific prompts such as ‘week-long trip this winter to a city with great food, nonstop only’ or ‘10 day ski trip to a world-class resort with fresh powder.’

Flight Deals then taps into real-time Google Flights data to show users “relevant, up-to-date options from hundreds of airlines and booking sites.” “You’ll see the best bargains available that match your search, including destinations you may not have previously considered,” the company said.

A Strategic AI Expansion

TechCrunch reports that Flight Deals is powered by a custom version of Gemini 2.5, and the results are ranked using real-time pricing feeds and savings algorithms. Meanwhile, Google also added the ability to exclude basic economy fares within the core Google Flights experience across the U.S. and Canada

Why It Matters

There’s a reason why so many generative AI product demos involve having a chatbot deal with travel details for the user’s next trip. Many people routinely travel for work, and most of us plan vacations online long before we go on holiday. That’s where AI chatbots can come in handy, as they can automate the search process and free up our time. Just give ChatGPT a prompt or tell Gemini what you want for your next trip, and the chatbots can provide fast assistance. Some AIs even come with agent abilities that let them make reservations on your behalf.

But what if instead of going to ChatGPT or Gemini with your travel searches, you used a Google Flights-related service and asked it in natural language to find flight deals for you to a specific destination, or even surprise you with destination suggestions? Google unveiled such a feature on Thursday, and many are already looking forward to using Flight Deals when planning their next trip. The AI feature might be especially useful in a world where airlines use generative AI to profit from dynamic prices, even though Google Flights already has a feature to find the most budget-friendly trips.

Google Flights will still work as a standalone app that can help you find cheaper flights to your next destination. You won’t have to rely on the new AI capabilities in Flight Deals for that. After all, the AI-infused Flight Deals product will be just a beta test available to users in three markets: the U.S., Canada, and India, initially. It’s unclear when Flight Deals will roll out more broadly.

Called Flight Deals, you use it just like you’d use a Google search box. Just describe when, where, and how you want to travel, and it’s supposed to handle the rest.

The new AI tool is for those who don’t like fiddling with the many different search tools on Google Flights, which currently require you to select specific airports or dates, even if you just want to browse. I’ve used Google Flights to find many great flight deals over the years, but I have to admit that it’s not for everyone. Currently, Google Flights searches are like using a stick shift car when automatics are easily available. Sure, Google Flights gives you much more control, but Google’s designed Flight Deals to be accessible to everyone. Once it’s widely available, it could be an easier way to find a cheap flight you’d otherwise miss, or even ideate on trip ideas in general.

Flight Deals will also show trip suggestions below the search box, based on your location, even if you haven’t searched for anything yet. As for your own searches, Google says you’re free to get creative. You could say “cheap economy class flight from New York to LA in one month,” but you could also try search terms like “week-long trip this winter to a city with great food, nonstop only” or “10 day ski trip to a world-class resort with fresh powder.”

At the moment, Flight Deals is rolling out in beta in the U.S., Canada, and India. Neither I or my editor currently have access to it, but Google says the rollout should be finished in about a week. In the U.S. and Canada, Google says it’s also added an option to exclude basic economy fares, which can be quite helpful for those with a lot of luggage, as those fares sometimes don’t even include a carry-on bag anymore.
