If you were a U.S. citizen or U.S. resident alien who filed a 2021 tax return — or haven’t filed it yet — and didn’t claim the Recovery Rebate Credit, you may be one of the 1 million eligible to receive the IRS check.

“Looking at our internal data, we realized that one million taxpayers overlooked claiming this complex credit when they were actually eligible,” said IRS Commissioner Danny Werfel.

Qualified taxpayers who filed a 2021 tax return, but left the data field for the Recovery Rebate Credit blank or put in $0 when they were eligible for the credit may receive a check, which will happen automatically.
