New Delhi: In another step towards bringing greater interoperability and jointness between the armed forces, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) has been authorised to issue joint instruction and orders to the three armed forces, in a departure from the past when each service – the Army, Air Force and Navy – would issue individual orders. Defence minister Rajnath Singh gave the enhanced powers to the CDS and the first joint order was issued on Tuesday, officials said. The first order on ‘Approval, Promulgation and Numbering of Joint Instructions and Joint Orders’, focuses on the need to streamline procedures, eliminate redundancies and enhance cross-service cooperation.”This initiative lays the foundation for improved transparency, coordination and administrative efficiency in the three services. It also marks the beginning of a new era of jointness and integration,” officials said.
