Brock Purdy is under pressure this upcoming 2025 NFL season to be worth the $265 million contract extension that the San Francisco 49ers gave him. Moreover, Purdy must show that he can put this roster on his back and carry them to wins.

Former NFL linebacker Kirk Morrison appeared on 95.7 The Game’s “Willard & Dibs,” he stated that Purdy must display the ability to elevate the roster regardless of what he has at his disposal.

“Brock Purdy has to elevate the roster,” Morrison said. “That’s where I think I’m getting to. When you pay a quarterback that money, you have to elevate the rest of the roster now. It doesn’t matter. We’ve seen Patrick Mahomes do it. We’ve seen, obviously, Josh Allen has done it last year when they traded away Stefon Diggs and all that.

“So with all this roster reconstruction, Brock Purdy has to show that you can win a Super Bowl on my back and on my arm. I can do that. I believe that he can. Now it just depends on just how healthy this team is going to be, and can they get through a full season, unlike what we saw last year where it went sideways pretty quickly at the end.”

Last season, Purdy took a step back in his production due to the number of injuries the 49ers endured. In 2023, the 25-year-old recorded 4,280 passing yards, 31 touchdowns, and completed 69.4 percent of his passes. However, in 2024, he registered 3,864 passing yards, 20 touchdowns, and completed 65.9 percent of his passes.

The question surrounding Purdy is whether he’s a product of the talent around him or can make do with what’s given and elevate it? Despite the questions, Morrison believes Purdy can put the team on his shoulder.

It will be interesting to see how Purdy goes into this season as the NFC West will be a challenging battle with the Seattle Seahawks, Los Angeles, and Arizona Cardinals looking to win the division as well.
