Players of Epic Games‘ “Fortnite” who were “charged for unwanted purchases while playing the game” will be receiving more than $126 million in refunds from the Federal Trade Commission.

The government agency announced the new round of refunds Wednesday, which brings the total amount that the FTC has issued to consumers related to its now-settled case against Epic regarding its billing practices to nearly $200 million. In December 2022, Epic announced it had agreed to pay $245 million to settle the FTC’s accusations that the gaming company used “deceptive practices to trick players into making unwanted purchases.”

The FTC issued 629,344 payments to “Fortnite” players in December 2024, a first round of refunds that totaled more than $72 million. In this second round, the FTC says it will send 969,173 checks and PayPal payments between June 25 and June 26 to players who filed a valid claim.

The FTC says that consumers selected their preferred payment method when they completed their initial claim form and encourages check recipients to cash checks within 90 days, while PayPal recipients should redeem their refund payments within 30 days.

The process for “Fortnite” players and their parents or guardians to submit a claim for compensation has now been reopened.

According to the FTC, “Eligible consumers who have not yet submitted a claim will now have until July 9, 2025, to submit one at www.ftc.gov/fortnite.”

A representative for Epic Games declined to comment Thursday, pointing back to Epic’s initial blog post announcing the settlement in December 2022.
