The Federal Trade Commission announced on June 25 that it is sending more than $126 million in refunds to Fortnite users who were charged for unwanted purchases while playing the game, as part of a 2023 settlement with the game’s developer.

The FTC is set to send 969,173 checks and PayPal payments on June 25 and 26 to consumers who already filed a valid claim by Feb. 14, the agency said in a news release.

The agency is also now allowing Fortnite gamers and their parents or guardians to submit a claim by July 9.

Back in 2023, Fortnite’s developer Epic Games agreed to pay $245 million to settle allegations from the FTC that the company used deceptive practices to trick customers into making unwanted purchases.

“We accepted this agreement because we want Epic to be at the forefront of consumer protection and provide the best experience for our players,” Epic said in a statement at the time.

The FTC said the total amount of refunds it has issued related to Epic Games has reached nearly $200 million. The FTC previously sent nearly 630,000 payments to users last year, which totaled more than $72 million.

How To Know if You’re Eligible for a Fortnite Refund

According to the FTC, Fortnite users, or their parents or guardians if they are under the age of 18, are eligible to submit a claim if:

They were charged in-game currency for items they didn’t want between January 2017 and September 2022

Their child made charges to their credit card without their knowledge between January 2017 and November 2018

Their account was locked between January 2017 and September 2022 after they complained to their credit card company about wrongful charges

If a consumer already submitted a claim after Feb. 14, 2025, the agency said it is still reviewing claims filed after that date and will provide more information soon.

How To Apply for a Refund From the FTC

To apply for a refund, users will need a claim number or their Epic account ID, and then can apply here, according to the FTC.

The deadline to file a claim is July 9, 2025, and users can choose to get the refund by check or via a PayPal payment.

If a user’s claim is approved, the payment amount will depend on “several factors, including how many people file a claim,” according to the FTC.

The FTC said it expects to send additional payments in 2026, after it reviewed and validated all claims.
