Free coconut rhinoceros beetle workshop to be held on Molokai
The invasive coconut rhinoceros beetle has not yet been detected on Molokai. The workshop will cover CRB identification, early detection and survey methods, best management practices and control methods. All residents are welcome, but landscape professionals, grounds maintenance crews, farmers and anyone working in mulch, compost or palm materials are highly encouraged to attend.
The workshop is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. July 29 at One Alii Park Pavilion in Kaunakakai. Registration is encouraged but not mandatory.While all residents are welcome, landscape professionals, grounds maintenance crews, farmers, along with anyone working in mulch, compost or palm materials are highly encouraged to attend. The workshop will cover CRB identification, early detection and survey methods, best management practices and control methods designed to inform and help spur early detection critical to cutting off CRB at the onset.
Residents are asked to examine compost and mulch piles closely for larvae, bore holes, and damaged palms. Report any CRB sightings by calling 808-643-PEST (7378) or going online at 643pest.org.
CRB Response is a grant-funded emergency program under the University of Hawaii that uses education, detection and control efforts to protect Hawaii from the invasive CRB.
