Full Results: 2025 Spokane Youth Sports Awards honors local athletes, coaches, and teams
SWX teamed up with Spokane Sports for the 2025 Spokane Youth Sports Awards. Honorees were recognized not only for their athletic excellence but also for their academic achievements and community leadership. St. George’s girls track and field program won its fourth straight State 2B championship and guided the boys team to a second-place finish in 2025 after back-to-back state titles. Wilbur-Creston-Keller won its first-ever State 1B football championship with a 42-34 victory over top-seeded Liberty Christian. The awards were presented at a ceremony similar to ESPN’s ESPYs in New York City on June 30th and July 1st. The winners were announced at a press conference held at the Spokane Convention Center on July 2nd and 3rd, and the awards were handed out at 5:30 p.m.

Region Coach of the Year
Winner: TJ Moulton, St. George’s Track and Field
TJ Moulton led the St. George’s girls track and field program to its fourth straight State 2B championship and guided the boys team to a second-place finish in 2025 after back-to-back state titles. The girls squad produced six individual champions and 14 state placers, led by senior Josie McLaughlin, who won three events and anchored a ninth consecutive 4×400 relay title. The boys team tallied three individual wins and 10 placers.

Metro Coach of the Year
Winner: Matty McIntyre, Gonzaga Prep Boys Basketball
Matty McIntyre steered the Bullpups to GSL, District 6, and State 4A championships in a 26-2 season, marking his third state title. Gonzaga Prep finished 9-0 in league play and captured its seventh district title in nine years. The Bullpups won three close games at state by a combined 17 points and placed two on the all-league team.

Region Girls Team of the Year
Winners (Tie):
Freeman Girls Soccer — The Scotties completed a perfect 21-0 season, winning league, district, and State 2B championships while outscoring opponents 150-12. Junior Rylee Russell led the state with 66 goals, and the team maintained a 3.469 GPA.
St. George’s Girls Track and Field — The Dragons captured a fourth consecutive State 2B title, scoring 103 points and producing six event winners. Senior Josie McLaughlin claimed three individual titles and anchored the winning 4×400 relay.

Region Boys Team of the Year
Winner: Wilbur-Creston-Keller Football
Wilbur-Creston-Keller won its first-ever State 1B football championship with a 42-34 victory over top-seeded Liberty Christian. Preston Michel rushed for 212 yards and two scores, while Kallen Maioho added 98 rushing yards and three total touchdowns. WCK dominated with 439 total yards and 29 first downs.

Metro Girls Team of the Year
Winner: Central Valley Girls Basketball
The Bears capped a 27-0 season by winning GSL, District 6, and State 3A titles. With postseason injuries limiting key players, CV shifted focus to defense, holding state opponents to an average of 40 points. Led by Gatorade Player of the Year Brynn McGaughy, the team posted a 3.71 GPA.

Metro Boys Team of the Year
Winner: Lewis and Clark Boys Cross Country
The Tigers claimed GSL, District 6, and State 4A championships, with their top runner finishing 13th. All five scorers finished within 14 seconds of each other, securing the title with depth and consistency. All five earned all-league honors, and the team achieved a 3.623 GPA.

Region Girls Athlete of the Year
Winner: Kaidyn Maioho, Wilbur-Creston-Keller Volleyball (Senior)
Maioho led her team to league and state titles, earning State 1B Player of the Year and championship match MVP honors. A multi-sport athlete, she also reached state in basketball and track, all while maintaining a 3.5 GPA and participating in community service.

Region Boys Athlete of the Year
Winner: Kallen Maioho, Wilbur-Creston-Keller Football (Senior)
A standout quarterback and defensive back, Maioho helped W-C-K capture its first football title. He finished with 29 career interceptions (second all-time in 8-man football), and also earned accolades in basketball and golf. Maioho graduated with a 4.0 GPA and will play golf at Whitworth.

Metro Girls Athlete of the Year
Winner: Libby Roberts, University Wrestling (Senior)
Roberts became the fifth female wrestler in state history to win four straight state titles, finishing her career 117-6, undefeated against Washington girls. She also lettered in cross country, maintained a 3.88 GPA, and won multiple national wrestling titles.

Metro Boys Athlete of the Year
Winner: Beau Butner, Central Valley Football and Soccer (Senior)
Butner led the GSL in scoring with 1,820 all-purpose yards and 27 touchdowns. He set a school rushing record with 366 yards in a single game and was a four-year letterwinner in both football and soccer, earning a 4.0 GPA and a football scholarship to Carroll College.

Specialized Athlete of the Year
Winner: Tianmei Dwyer, Dynamic Gymnastics Academy
Dwyer, a Level 10 gymnast, is a four-time regional champion and three-time national qualifier. A 4.069 GPA student at Lewis and Clark, she’s also an accomplished pianist and active volunteer. Dwyer will attend George Washington University for engineering.

Dan Fitzgerald Against All Odds Award Recipients (And $1,000 scholarship for each athlete)
Winners:
Cameron Frenk, Cheney Track & Cross Country — Overcame a ‘fist sized’ brain tumor and grueling surgery to return to competition, placing fourth at districts within months. Frenk was a three-time state placer in cross country, earning all-league recognition twice and earned a cumulative 3.9 GPA.
Alaina Gott, Parasport Spokane — Competed in multiple adaptive sports while managing multiple genetic and medical conditions. Maintained a 3.8 GPA and earned an associate’s degree before enrolling at Gonzaga. For ParaSport Spokane, Gott qualified for and competed at the 2022 USA Para Nationals, placing second in the 100, 200 and 400 and repeated the feat in 2023.
Treshon Green, Rogers Basketball — Diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder at age 5, Green became a three-time all-league basketball selection and earned a 3.61 GPA while excelling despite social and sensory challenges.
