Gainesville residents recognize Black businesses at Impact Awards Ceremony
Gainesville residents and business owners gathered to recognize Black-owned businesses. Dozens of business owners visited Santa Fe College’s Blount Center for the first annual “Impact Award” ceremony. Money made from the event will go towards the nonprofit Carolyn’s Heart, with the goal of helping Gainesville residents pay rent, teach them financial literacy, and help get them into the workforce.
Dozens of business owners visited Santa Fe College’s Blount Center for the first annual “Impact Award” ceremony.
Entrepreneurs and business owners could apply to win awards like “Marketing Genius,” “Hustler,” and “People’s Champ.”
“You can never say thank you too much to people that are in the community,” said organizer Romona Jackson, the founder of the Gainesville Black Business Expo. “So, this is just a small part to say thank you for what you’re doing.”
The awards ceremony leads into the Gainesville Black Business Expo, where Black business owners can advertise their product or services.
“You know, a lot of businesses fail because no one knows they’re there,” Jackson explained. “So being able to have a platform where they can showcase their products, their services, and who they are to the community will give them another avenue of awareness- and that was my whole goal.”

The Gainesville Black Business Expo starts at 1 p.m. at the Martin Luther King Jr. Multipurpose Center on Saturday, July 19.
