Galaxy Z Fold 7 is a hit as it outsells Flip 7 for the first time in Samsung’s home country
Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7 are seeing exceptional pre-order numbers in South Korea. For the first time in the foldable era, Samsung is selling more Fold models than Flip models. The Fold 7 is leading the pack in terms of raw sales data, even exceeding expectations. The new design, larger displays, and enhanced AI functions are all playing a role in consumer’s flipping their usual choice of device. The foldable lineup, alongside the budget-ish Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE, and the Galaxy Watch 8 and 8 Classic, start shipping on July 25th. You can save up to $1,000 in trade-in value, and score a storage upgrade for free on both devices.
As reported by ETNews, Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7 are seeing exceptional pre-order numbers in South Korea, with this year’s lineup seeing twice as many sales compared to last year’s (admittedly sluggish) numbers.
ETNews chalks up Samsung’s success to a combination of fresh designs — specifically on the Galaxy Z Fold 7, which leapt from a distant last place in terms of its overall size and shape to leading as one of the thinnest foldables around — and strong pre-order bonuses. But, surprisingly, it’s that slim Fold 7 that’s leading the pack in terms of raw sales data, even exceeding expectations.
For the first time in the foldable era, Samsung is selling more Fold models than Flip models in South Korea. Typically, Samsung’s clamshell series tends to outsell the more expensive, more fragile book-style foldable, specifically among younger users looking for something fun and pocketable. But the Galaxy Z Fold 7 have finally seen those trends reversed, with the Fold 7 accounting for 60% of early sales in this year’s lineup. ETNews says the new design, larger displays, and enhanced AI functions are all playing a role in consumer’s flipping their usual choice.

It’s a great start for a device that has seen its fair share of controversy says its announcement. Samsung’s decision to move away from S Pen support on its foldables — for now, at least — has undoubtedly riled up fans online, but it doesn’t seem to be impacting the shopping decisions being made by fans in South Korea. While we’ll have to keep waiting on numbers for the rest of the world, it’s great news for a device class that has seen its fair share of ups and downs over the past half-decade. Who knows — maybe it’s great news for Samsung’s upcoming tri-fold, too.
