In Google Search, Audio Overviews will use Gemini models to “generate quick, conversational audio overviews for certain search queries.” The idea is to provide a “lay of the land” for topics you’re not familiar with. It can also be used to “absorb information whether you’re multitasking or simply prefer an audio experience.”
The example Google provides is “how do noise cancellation headphones work.” Scroll down the results page for the “Generate Audio Overview” button. It can take up to 40 seconds, with Google using the same two host voices/format as the other experiences. The one we generated came in at just over four minutes.
You’ll get a simple audio player with play/pause, volume controls with quick mute, and adjustable playback speed (.25x to 2x). A “Based on [x] sites” carousel underneath lets you read more, while you can give it a thumbs up/down.
