GTA 6 fans divided over PlayStation exclusivity

The latest GTA VI trailer was released earlier this week. At the end of the trailer, fans were surprised to learn that it stated that gameplay was captured using a PlayStation 5, and not even a PS5 Pro. So, has Sony struck some sort of marketing deal with Rockstar Games? If so, it seemingly wouldn’t be the first time, because in the trailer for the new-gen release of GTA V, it was advertised as coming to PlayStation 5. Microsoft infamously rejected exclusive rights to GTA III, and with PlayStation taking up the deal for PS2, it played a huge role in releasing one of the most important video games of all time. With the new trailer captured on PS5 though, it looks like it’s once again Sony on top which may upset Xbox owners who are undoubtedly going to spend much of the next year wondering just how deep the deal will run. ‘PlayStation 6’ quietly appears in unexpected new trailer

Rockstar Games dropped a new trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI yesterday. At one point in the trailer you can see what appears to be a slightly futuristic looking PlayStation in one of the shots. It’s sort of like a PlayStation 5, but different enough that many people are wondering if this is some kind of leak or reveal for a brand new model of the console. But unfortunately, that’s not the case. The console in question lacks any kind of Sony or PlayStation branding. Even the shot of the controller looks a little bit too knock-off to be anything official. Rockstar Games and Sony have had a bit of a light partnership for a while now. Going all the way back to the launch of GTA V, Sony and Rockstar games seem to have a sort of advertising exclusivity partnership that allows Sony to use PlayStation branding in their trailers. The official trailer description reads: “Jason and Lucia have always known the deck is stacked against them,” the official trailer title is ‘GTA VI: The Heist’ and the game is expected to be available in North America and Europe on May 26, 20 26, and in other countries later in the year. GTA 6 heftier ‘inevitable’ price tag leaves fans torn

Analysts have suggested that Grand Theft Auto VI could be priced at $100. This split fans of the acclaimed Rockstar Games franchise into two camps. Many labelled the pricing as ridiculous, arguing that a studio or publisher would never charge that much for a single release. Others said it would be worth it for a monumental release like GTA VI. With the release of the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 though, Nintendo will begin charging $80 for major releases – exceeding the price of PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S games. Microsoft has just confirmed that later this year, Xbox will also begin charging £70 for major titles. If GTA VI charges $100, you best bet that other titles will follow suit. Fable and Perfect Dark are two games that spring to mind that I assume will fall into that $80 category. I’ll be shocked if we don’t eventually see a similar move from PlayStation, but with pre-orders having already gone live for October’s Ghost of Yōtei which remains at the $70 mark. Read full article
