Investigation underway

A senior police official confirmed that a case of accidental death has been registered. Preliminary investigations included statements from teachers, school staff and students present at the time. The girl, a resident of Naranpura, lived with her parents and siblings. Her father runs an optician’s shop on Gandhi Road. The family was away in Rajasthan when the incident occurred and will be questioned upon their return.

Depression could have led to extreme step

“We are clueless as to what happened… We are searching for possible reasons,” a school trustee told IE. The trustee further said that a medical certificate submitted by the girl’s mother stated she had been suffering from depression and had been on medical leave for a month until about ten days ago. “She was regular to school for the past ten days,” the trustee added.

Authorities plan to continue their investigation on Monday by recording statements from her close friends. The tragic death has raised concerns around mental health awareness and support systems in schools.
