An encounter broke out on Thursday (22 May) between security forces and terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar district.

The gunfight broke on Thursday morning in Singhpora, Chatroo area of Kishtwar district, India Today reported.

According to reports, around three to four terrorists have been surrounded by security personnel in the area.

Security forces have cordoned off the locality and are actively working to eliminate the threat.

A fierce exchange of gunfire is reportedly underway as the forces continue to engage the terrorists in a high-alert operation.

This latest operation follows last week’s successful anti-terror operation in Nadir village of Tral, where three Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorists were eliminated by the security forces.

The slain terrorists were identified as Asif Ahmed Sheikh, Amir Nazir Wani, and Yawar Ahmad Bhat, all residents of J&K’s Pulwama district.

Additional encounters were reported last week in Shopian’s Keller area on Tuesday and again in Tral’s Nadar region on Thursday.

These continuing counter-terror operations are part of the security efforts across South Kashmir in response to the 22 April Pahalgam terror attack, in which 26 innocent people, mostly tourists, were brutally killed by Pakistan-backed terrorists.

The authorities have also begun demolishing properties linked to terrorists across J&K as part of broader crackdown on terrorism.
