Hartford business devastated by floods, working to reopen
The flooding this week caused major damage to the business. Maria Guzman, the owner of Standing Bear Hostel, was rescued by the Newport Swat Team. Guzman is confident the hostel will reopen, but she currently does not have a timetable.
Maria Guzman, the owner of Standing Bear Hostel, was rescued by the Newport Swat Team on Wednesday when the flooding began.
Standing Bear now has electricity again, but they are still without plumbing.
While there is much damage, Guzman said that they will recover. “Coming back, its devastating, but with a little heavy machinery we will get through this.”
There were many volunteers there on Friday to help with the cleanup and Maria says the Hartford community is always there for each other.
“Hartford’s great. We all help each other out, we always have. We are mountain strong,” she said.
Along with the damage to Standing Bear, the main road leading to the business was damaged by the floods and it currently closed as well. Guzman is confident the hostel will reopen, but she currently does not have a timetable of when that will be.
