HAZARD, Ky. (WYMT) – With holiday travel on the horizon, AAA of the Bluegrass is reminding fliers that when you book matters.

Experts are saying last minute reservations can costs hundreds of dollars more, while booking too early generally only adds a small amount to the price.

Research shows domestic travelers get the best rates two to three weeks out.

“For domestic, usually booking two to three weeks out from your expected trip gives you the best rate and if possible, Tuesdays, booking on a Tuesday tends to give you the best rate for whatever reason.” said Lori Weaver Hawkins, spokesperson for AAA of the Bluegrass.

Research also shows that international trips are cheapest when booked about six months in advance, with even the day of the week making a difference.

Making sure you compare airport options, while watching for extra fees can help save time and money.

You can also consider airline credit cards or loyalty programs.
