Bryan Kohberger’s family is coping with a difficult reality.

The criminology student’s mom Maryann Kohberger and sister Amanda Kohberger made appearances in court on July 23, when he received four consecutive life sentences for the 2022 murders of college students Kaylee Goncalves, 21, Madison Mogen, 21, Xana Kernodle, 20, and Ethan Chapin, 20.

And during the courtroom date, the women had emotional reactions to the proceedings, with Maryann seen “shuddering at times and in one instance putting her head in her hands,” according to The New York Times, who had a reporter inside the room.

However, Bryan ignored his family as he was escorted out of the room following his sentencing, per the outlet, only acknowledging their presence when court returned from a recess. At that point, the 30-year-old smiled and nodded at his mother in the stands, according to the NYT.

And Maryann and Amanda also received a nod from another person in the room as the case came to a close.
