In Odisha, PM Modi says he rejected Trump’s invite for visit to ‘land of Lord Jagannath’
PM Narendra Modi said he turned down the invitation of President Donald Trump to visit US because he wanted to “come to the Land of Lord Jagannath’ Modi was in Canada to attend the G7 meeting on the host country’s invitation. He held a 35-minute phone conversation with Trump, their first since Operation Sindoor, after the US President left the summit early. Both leaders agreed to make efforts to meet in the near future, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said. Trump has claimed credit for “stopping the war” between India and Pakistan and linked it to a trade deal with India.
“I humbly rejected invitation of President Donald Trump to visit US to come to the Land of Lord Jagannath,” PM Modi said.
Speaking at a rally in Bhubaneswar commemorating one year of the BJP government in Odisha, he said the state government “fulfilled demands of people as four gates of Puri Jagannath temple, its ‘Ratna Bhandar’ were reopened”. He further said that the first BJP government in Odisha had successfully completed one year with good governance, and delivery of public services.

He also alleged that during the Congress rule, India suffered from lack of good governance.
While PM Modi was in Canada to attend the G7 meeting on the host country’s invitation, he held a 35-minute phone conversation with Trump, their first since Operation Sindoor, after the US President left the summit early.
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri gave details about the conversation: “President Trump enquired if Prime Minister Modi could stop over in the US on his way back from Canada. Due to prior commitments, Prime Minister Modi expressed his inability to do so. Both leaders agreed to make efforts to meet in the near future.”
During that conversation, Modi also told the US President that the cessation of hostilities between India and Pakistan was decision taken after bilateral talks and there was no discussion at any point on any level about an India-US trade deal, or any proposal for mediation by the US between the two countries.

Since announcing a “ceasefire”, Trump has on multiple occassions claimed credit for “stopping the war” between India and Pakistan and linked it to a trade deal with India. Hours after Modi’s call, he repeated his claim during a conversation with reporters.
“Well, I stopped the war between Pakistan—I love Pakistan—I think Modi is a fantastic man… And I stopped the war between Pakistan and India,” he said.
Referring to both Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir, who Trump hosted for a lunch meet, and Modi as being “extremely influential” in halting the conflict, Trump said he had used trade diplomacy to get both sides to de-escalate. “They are both nuclear countries. I got it stopped.”
