Cristiano Ronaldo fans were quick to criticise and highlight Lionel Messi’s weaknesses as his dream of winning the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 with Inter Miami was crushed by Paris Saint-Germain on Sunday. European champions and Messi’s former club, PSG, defeated Inter Miami 4-0 at Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium to secure their place in the Club World Cup quarter-finals.
Ronaldo’s international teammate from Portugal, Joao Neves, scored two goals in PSG’s victory over Messi’s side as the French club displayed ruthless efficiency and unforgiving attitude on the pitch.

Messi, Miami struggle against PSG
It took just six minutes for PSG to open the scoring as Neves found himself unmarked at the far post, scoring a free header. He doubled the lead in the 39th minute when top PSG talents combined for a perfect team goal. Bradley Barcola found Fabian Ruiz, whose excellent cross was converted by Neves.
Messi and other Inter Miami players struggled throughout the first half to get hold of the ball and if they hoped for a miracle in the second half, those hopes were dashed just before the half-time break as defender Tomas Aviles turned Desire Doue’s cross into his own net.
More from Football
More misery awaited Miami in the extra time of the first half as Achraf Hakimi scored the final goal after his initial shot struck the crossbar.
Messi did create a few chances in the second half as his header was saved by Gianluigi Donnarumma and he also hit the wall with a late free kick, but none of it resulted in a goal.
“It was an almost perfect match, we created a lot of chances, and I’m happy yet I think we still need to improve, that’s football,” PSG coach Luis Enrique said.
Messi trolled by Ronaldo fans
As Messi exited the Club World Cup, Ronaldo fans were quick to highlight how his best performances have only come in a Barcelona or an Argentina shirt.
“Messi once again proving that he can’t do it outside of Barcelona and Argentina, I genuinely respect Ronaldo so much cause he did it with different clubs and countries. My goat,” a fan wrote on X.

Navy officer’s remarks on Operation Sindoor ‘taken out of context’, says Indian embassy
The Indian Embassy in Indonesia on Sunday issued a clarification, saying certain remarks made by its defence attaché were blown out of proportion. The statement referred to remarks by a Navy captain on Indian Air Force losses during Operation Sindoor. Opposition party Congress accused the BJP-led government of “misleading” the nation after the remarks went public. The Indian Navy Captain further stated that the Indian forces had also been directed to not hit Pakistani infrastructure or air defences in the first strike. He further added that after this loss, the armed forces changed their tactics.
In a statement issued on X, the embassy noted that Navy Captain Shiv Kumar’s remarks on Operation Sindoor were “taken out of context” and “misrepresented.”
“We have seen media reports regarding a presentation made by the Defence Attache at a Seminar. His remarks have been quoted out of context and the media reports are a mis-representation of the intention and thrust of the presentation made by the speaker,” said the embassy.
“The presentation conveyed that the Indian Armed Forces serve under civilian political leadership unlike some other countries in our neighbourhood. It was also explained that the objective of Operation Sindoor was to target terrorist infrastructure and the Indian response was non-escalatory,” the statement added further.
What did the defence attaché say?
During a presentation on June 10, India’s defence attaché to Indonesia, Captain (Indian Navy) Shiv Kumar stated that the Indian Air Force lost “some aircraft” after it struck terror sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir under Operation Sindoor.
Captain Kumar further stated that the Indian forces had also been directed to not hit Pakistani infrastructure or air defences in the first strike.
“Only because of the constraint given by the political leadership to not attack the military establishment or their air defences,” he said, while explaining the reason why the IAF suffered lost fighter jets.
The Captain further added that after this loss, the armed forces changed their tactics.
“We went for the military installations… we first achieved suppression of enemy air defences and then… all our attacks could easily go through using BrahMos missiles,” he said.
After the remarks went public, opposition party Congress accused the BJP-led government of “misleading” the nation.
“Why is the PM refusing to preside over an all-party meeting and take the Opposition into confidence? Why has the demand for a special session of Parliament been rejected?” said Congress leader Jairam Ramesh.
Senior leader Pawan Khera also took to X and stated the defence attache’s remarks were a “direct indictment.”
“They know they’ve compromised national security, and they’re terrified of what the Congress Party will expose before the people of India,” said Khera.

In response to remarks from Justice Akinside on the institution of traditional rulers (obaship), the Oluwo of Iwo has stated that Yoruba Obas should be seen as cultural symbols and not as religious leaders, Premium Times says in a report. He emphasized that this distinction grants them the freedom to practice a religion of their choosing. The Oluwo also took the opportunity to commend the Ogun state government and its traditional rulers.
‘Indian Armed Forces serve under civilian political leadership’: Embassy says Defence attaché’s remarks on Op Sindoor misrepresented
The Indian Navy officer was speaking at a seminar on “Analysis of the Pakistan-India Air Battle and Indonesia’s Anticipatory Strategies from the Perspective of Air Power” The Indian Embassy said in a social media post, “His remarks have been quoted out of context and the media reports are a mis-representation of the intention and thrust of the speaker” India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7, targeting terrorist infrastructure in territories controlled by Pakistan in response to the Pahalgam terror attack. The strikes triggered four days of intense clashes that ended with an understanding on stopping the military actions on May 10.
As the purported video of the remarks made by Captain Shiv Kumar on June 10 at a gathering surfaced on Sunday (June 29, 2025), the Indian Embassy in Jakarta said the officer only stated the fact that the Indian armed forces serve under political leadership, unlike some other countries in India’s neighbourhood.
The Indian Navy officer was speaking at a seminar on “Analysis of the Pakistan-India Air Battle and Indonesia’s Anticipatory Strategies from the Perspective of Air Power” at a university in Jakarta.
The opposition Congress on Sunday cited the reported comments of the defence attaché on the loss of aircraft to accuse the government of having “misled” the country.
However, the Indian Embassy said in a social media post, “His remarks have been quoted out of context and the media reports are a mis-representation of the intention and thrust of the presentation made by the speaker.” “The presentation conveyed that the Indian Armed Forces serve under civilian political leadership unlike some other countries in our neighbourhood,” it said.
The Embassy said it was explained that the objective of Operation Sindoor was to target terrorist infrastructure and the Indian response was non-escalatory.
In his presentation, the Indian defence attaché said in view of some “constraints” owing to the mandate decided by the “political leadership”, the Indian Air Force could not attack Pakistani military installations in the initial phase operation.
“We did lose some aircraft and that happened only because of the constraint given by the political leadership to not attack the military establishment or their air defence system,” he said.
“But after the loss, we changed our tactics and we went for the military installations. So we first achieved suppression and destruction of enemy air defence and then that is why all our attacks could easily go through using surface-to-air missiles and Brahmos surface-to-surface missiles,” he said.
Around a month back, Chief of Defence Staff Gen Anil Chauhan said in Singapore that India rectified tactics and hit deep inside Pakistani territory after suffering losses of aircraft in the recent military clashes with Pakistan.
The Chief of Defence Staff did not specify the losses in terms of a number of platforms.
India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7, targeting terrorist infrastructure in territories controlled by Pakistan in response to the Pahalgam terror attack.
The strikes triggered four days of intense clashes that ended with an understanding on stopping the military actions on May 10.
After the strikes at the terror infrastructure, India informed Pakistan that it does not want to escalate the situation and the strikes were aimed at terrorist bases.
But as Pakistan launched a military retaliation, India responded to it very strongly.
Idaho’s Coeur d’Alene shooting: Did shooters set fire intentionally to ambush firefighters?
Two people have been killed when firefighters tackling a blaze on Canfield Mountain in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, were ambushed by an unknown number of gunmen. While one man has been found dead at the site with a firearm nearby, it remains unknown as to how many were involved in the shooting. Officials note that the assailants had intentionally set the fire to draw in a firefighter response. The sheriff of the area has been quoted as saying that the blaze still rages on in the mountainside in Kootenai County, a popular park and hiking area. But what do we know of the fire? What about the shooter? How are authorities dealing with the ongoing situation? We find out. The fire was in fact, no accident. Officials from Idaho’s Northern Lakes Fire District said that firefighters responded to an intentionally set fire before being shot at. The “ambush” accurately describes what happened to those first at the scene. The shooter or shooters were using high-powered rifles.

What exactly is going on near Canfield Mountain?
On Sunday, around 1.30 pm local time, emergency crews reached Canfield Mountain in Kootenai County after receiving calls about a brush fire. An hour later, gunshots were reported from the scene of the blaze with officials noting that two people had died and others were injured.
Shortly after that, the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office issued an alert stating: “Active shooter at Canfield Mountain. Injuries are reported, but the extent is unknown. Avoid the area.”
Shock and panic unfolded as reports emerged of the shooting in the Coeur d’Alene area with one resident, identified as Linda Tiger, telling BBC, “This has never happened here. “But it goes to show that that no one is safe from this kind of mental sadness.”
The sheriff, Robert Norris, in a press conference, said, “We are actively taking sniper fire as we speak. We don’t know how many suspects are up there, and we don’t know how many casualties there are.”

The audio clip provides insight into the chaos that unfurled while the firefighters were trying to put out the blaze.
Was the blaze set intentionally to ambush firefighters?
As authorities contend with the shooter or shooters and the ongoing blaze, questions were being asked if the fire was set off intentionally to lure the firefighters to the spot.
And police and other officials have stated that the fire, was in fact, no accident. Officials from Idaho’s Northern Lakes Fire District were quoted as saying that firefighters responded to an intentionally set fire before being shot at, they said, adding that the “ambush” accurately describes what happened to those first at the scene.
How many shooters are at the scene? What’s the motive?
At the press conference, when asked how many shooters were involved in the incident, Sheriff Norris said, “We don’t know if there is one, two, three or four. We just don’t know.”
He further added that the shooter or shooters were using high-powered “modern-day sporting rifles.”

The sheriff also emphasised that the current goal was to track the assailant or assailants down and shoot on sight. “As soon as somebody has a clear shot, I encourage them to take that shot to neutralise the threat,” said the sheriff.
According to Norris, the suspects were not barricaded in a building but were hiding in “heavy brush” and “blending into their surroundings”. He added that the assailants were “well prepared”.

How are authorities responding to the shooting?
Following reports of the shooting, Idaho Governor Brad Little called the act “a heinous direct assault on our brave firefighters.” He said he was “heartbroken” by the attack in a post on Facebook.
Senator Jim Risch, who represents Idaho, decried Sunday’s “villainous attack” in a post on X. He said that he and his wife “join all Idahoans in mourning the heroic first responders murdered and others injured in the line of duty in Kootenai County.”
US Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security Kristi Noem also added that the agency was “actively monitoring” the situation in Couer d’Alene. “Pray for Idaho’s first responders,” she wrote. “Justice will be served.”

How has the shooting led to multiple theories online?
Even as authorities contend with the ongoing shooting situation and the blaze raging, netizens began to speculate the reason for the incident.
Some netizens began to link the shooting with Travis Decker, a former US soldier wanted in connection with the deaths of his three daughters. “Where is Travis Decker?” several users posted, while others asked, “Is this Travis Decker?” and “Could this be Travis Decker?” Despite the speculation, authorities have not provided any evidence linking Decker to the incident.
