A 33-year-old Irish woman has been found dead on board a boat which was docked at a yacht club on Long Island in New York.

A man found Martha Nolan-O’Slatarra, who lived in Manhattan, unconscious on the boat at Montauk Yacht Club, at 12am local time yesterday.

She was later pronounced dead at the scene by emergency services.

A post-mortem examination is due to be carried out on her body by the Suffolk County Medical Examiner’s Office.

An investigation into her death is being carried out by Suffolk County police detectives.

The Department of Foreign Affairs has said it is aware of the case and is providing consular assistance.

Ms Nolan-O’Slatarra, who was from Carlow, moved to the US aged 24 and had a successful fashion company called East X East.

She lived in Manhattan’s upper east side. In her latest TikTok post she was celebrating her brand’s pop-up shop on the beach in Long Island’s Hamptons.

She was also Director of Operations at investment firm K4 Capital and ran an Amazon fashion brand called Duper.

Fianna Fáil County Councillor in Carlow Andrea Dalton said she is “deeply saddened” to hear about Ms Nolan-O’Slatarra’s “untimely” death.

In a statement to RTÉ News, she said that while she did not know her personally, her thoughts and prayers are with her family.

“I know the community of Carlow will rally around Martha’s family at this difficult time.”

A statement from Suffolk County Police Department said detectives are investigating.

It said: “East Hampton Town Police responded to a 911 call from a man reporting a woman unconscious on a boat docked at the Montauk Yacht Club, on Star Island Road, at approximately 12am.

“Good samaritans attempted to perform CPR on the woman.

“Martha Nolan-O’Slatarra, 33, of Manhattan, was pronounced dead on the boat by first responders.

“The preliminary investigation and exam were inconclusive regarding the cause of death, which will be determined by an autopsy conducted by the Suffolk County Medical Examiner’s Office.”
