There was a spike in users reporting issues with OpenAI’s ChatGPT early on Tuesday morning, according to DownDetector.

There were more than 1,350 users reporting issues, the outage tracker said. Users reported that ChatGPT was unable to complete various tasks.

Error messages read: “too many concurrent requests”, and “hmm…something seems to have gone wrong.”

Another error message reads: “A network error occurred. Please check your connection and try again. If this issue persists please contact us through our help center at help.openai.com.”

One user said: “Constantly getting ‘Error in message stream’.”

OpenAI reported in February 2025 that it had more than 400 million weekly active users worldwide and 10 million paying subscribers to ChatGPT Plus.

ChatGPT owner OpenAI has said it is investigating the issue.

“Some users are experiencing elevated error rates and latency across the listed services,” the firm’s service status page says.

“We are investigating.”

The issue seems to have first been reported around 4am EST.
