How could Iran hit back at the US if it gets involved in conflict?
While Iran’s air force and other conventional military assets are no match for the US, it does have a few tricks up its sleeve that could make the Americans suffer for getting involved.
Iran’s power lies in proxy warfare and asymmetric attacks rather than direct confrontation, so we could see Tehran activating its proxy forces in Lebanon, Iraq, and Yemen to target US bases across the region.
While Israel has dealt a crushing blow to most of these outfits over recent months and even forced Lebanon’s Hezbollah into a peace treaty, the Iraqi PMF is a considerable fighting force of 200,000 soldiers that could be unleashed on the numerous US military bases in their country. The Yemeni Houthi militia is an outfit of roughly the same size, which has already struck targets for Iran during the course of the war.
Iran’s ace in the hole is the Red Sea and Strait of Hormuz, which it could use to disrupt global trade and target US tankers or military vessels.
It could also activate agents to carry out terror attacks against US embassies, contractors or other allies in the Middle East, but would be unlikely to do so on American soil.

Israeli Ambassador to the U.N. Danny Danon delivered a fiery rebuke at the UN Security Council Friday. Danon likened Iran’s conduct to a predator cloaked in diplomacy. The remarks came amid heightened tensions between Israel and Iran following repeated missile exchanges and Israeli strikes on Tehran. “Mr. Yiravani, you are not a victim. You are a wolf pretending to be a diplomat. And we are done pretending otherwise,” he said.
Israeli Ambassador to the United Nations Danny Danon delivered a fiery rebuke at the UN Security Council Friday, accusing Iran of orchestrating global terror while playing the victim.
The remarks came amid heightened tensions between Israel and Iran following repeated missile exchanges and Israeli strikes on Tehran.
“You come here asking for sympathy,” Danon said, addressing Iran’s UN representative, Saeed Iravani. “You demand protection from this council while plotting the extermination of my people. It’s enough.”
In a charged moment, Danon likened Iran’s conduct to a predator cloaked in diplomacy. “It’s like a wolf complaining when the shepherd fights back to protect his flock,” he said.
“Mr. Yiravani, you are not a victim. You are not even a diplomat. You are a wolf pretending to be a diplomat. And we are done pretending otherwise.”
Danon directly challenged Iran’s representative to clarify Tehran’s position on Israel’s right to exist and its leadership. “Mr. Yiravani, please clarify to us: Do you support the destruction of Israel, a UN member state? Do you also support the assassination of our elected leaders? If you do not—say so. We are all here, waiting.”
The remarks were part of an emergency Security Council session convened in response to the escalating regional conflict.
Israel continues to defend its missile shield and conduct operations targeting Iranian military assets, while Iran maintains its stance against any form of negotiation under pressure.
Danon’s blunt message to the international body called for an end to what he described as the ongoing “charade.”
“This council should put an end to this charade, once and for all.”

The death toll from the attack in Tel Aviv has risen to 13. The attack is the deadliest in Israel’s history. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says Iran will pay a heavy price for the attack. The damage to the city is estimated to be in the region of $1.5 billion. It is the largest single attack on Israel since the Six-Day War in 1982. The death toll is expected to rise as more bodies are found in the area. The Iranian government has not commented on the latest death toll.
The direct hit from an Iranian missile sheered the front off of a ten-story residential building, killing six people and burying several more under mounds of rubble. Rescue workers are reportedly still trying to dig them out.
The impact was extensive, damaging buildings for an entire city block and covering much of the neighborhood in bits of debris.
Those killed here, along with four members of an Arab-Israeli family who were killed in northern Israel, has brought the death toll to 13, more than triple the number of Israeli fatalities recorded on Friday, the first night of Iranian reprisals.
That made last night’s attack on Bat Yam the deadliest Iranian airstrike against Israel in its history.

But when measured alongside the vast field of destruction, the casualty count seemed relatively low — a fact residents attributed to Israel’s early warning system and the bomb shelters tucked into almost every building.
An official with the Israeli Defense Forces said that everyone who managed to take refuge inside a bomb shelter survived the attack.
“The building was shaking like hell. After a few minutes we went out and we saw the destruction. And then we realized that we don’t have houses anymore,” said Natalie, a 43 year old Bat Yam resident who said she works in administration. “The building was shaking like hell.”
Natalie and her neighbors were standing with their luggage in the entryway to their apartment building about a block away from the impact site.
She and her fellow residents looked disoriented as they described what they thought might be their next moves: calling friends and relatives to try to find places to stay for the next few nights.
“The thing about Israeli people is that we are always prepared,” she said. “I’m a good civilian who listened to the instructions of the government to stay in a safe place. And that’s what saves most lives.”
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was among a few Israeli politicians who paid a visit to Bat Yam today.
Speaking to reporters in front of the wreckage, Netanyahu declared that “Iran will pay a very heavy price for the murder of civilians, women and children that they did intentionally.”
