Bulls Sign G League Standout to Two-Way Deal
The Chicago Bulls have signed guard Jahmir Young to a two-way contract. Young is currently playing for the Grand Rapids Gold in the G League. The Bulls waived center Adama Sanogo to make way for Young. Young has never played in an NBA game but has been a solid scoring guard for Grand Rapids. He will now likely play for the Windy City Bulls in their G League affiliate. He is a decorated college player who played five years at Maryland. He earned CUSA Rookie of the Year along with three-time All-CUSA honors. He has been one of the most productive all-around guards in the league this season.

Young, an undrafted guard out of Maryland, has spent this year in the G League with the Grand Rapids Gold. He is currently averaging 22.6 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 7.9 assists. In the league, he ranks fifth in total points, eighth in total assists, total steals, second in total made, and third in attempted field goals. He has been one of the most productive all-around guards in the G League for Grand Rapids and will now likely play for the Windy City Bulls.
It is worth noting that Young is a decorated NCAA standout. He played five years between the Big Ten at Maryland and CUSA at Charlotte. Young earned CUSA Rookie of the Year along with three-time All-CUSA honors. While at Maryland, he also played his way into two All-Big Ten teams.

Bulls Waved Sanogo to Make Way for Young
Windy City former center, Sanogo was waived by the Bulls as he was expected to be sidelined for over a month due to injury. To make up for the lost body, Chicago opted to waive Sanogo and replace him with Young. Sanogo played just 13 games with the Bulls, spending most of his time in the G League. He was averaging 16.2 points and 10 rebounds per game. He was also beginning to develop an outside game shooting 41% on 1.1 3PA.
Will Young Earn Some Minutes?
Currently, the Bulls have a lot of depth at the guard position. Lonzo Ball, Josh Giddey, Ayo Dosonmu, and Coby White dominate the majority of those minutes. Waiting on the end of the bench the Bulls also have Jevon Carter and Dalen Terry.
With this army of guards in the United Center, it is unlikely to see Young take on any meaningful minutes. However, the Bulls look to tank and position themselves for the draft it’s possible Young will get some NBA minutes. Bulls fans can mostly expect to see him suit up for Windy City and shine in his playing time for the G League affiliate.
Spending time with Windy City will allow Young to continue to prepare his game for NBA play. Matching up with NBA-level talent, he can work on his shooting efficiency and potentially play some occasional NBA minutes to gain some confidence. Welcome to Chicago, Jahmir Young.

The 24-year-old is averaging 22.4 points, 7.3 assists, 4.5 rebounds and two steals on 47.6% shooting from the field in 30 games with the Gold. He has registered four 30-point games, including a career-high 40 points and 10 assists on Feb. 12 in a loss to the Capital City Go-Go.
Young played the first three years of college at Charlotte before transferring to Maryland for two seasons. He totaled 1,421 points at Charlotte and 1,205 points at Maryland, becoming the sixth player since 2006 to tally at least 1,000 points at two institutions.
The 6-foot-1 guard was named to the All-Big Ten first-team after averaging a career-high 20.4 points, 4.9 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 1.3 steals on 32.4% shooting from 3-point range in 32 games as a fifth-year senior. He was third in the conference in scoring and free throws (198).

Young signed with the Bulls after the team waived two-way center Adama Sanogo, who will reportedly miss at least four weeks with a knee injury. He will likely see some time with the Windy City Bulls in the G League.

Former Maryland men’s basketball star Jahmir Young made his NBA Summer League debut with the Denver Nuggets on Friday. Young did not score any points or attempt a shot in the 78-88 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers, but he did record two rebounds, two assists, one steal and was plus-8 in nine minutes of action off the bench. The Nuggets’ remaining games are against Charlotte (July 16), Indiana (July 18) and one more to be announced.

Young, who was named to the 2024 Portsmouth Invitational All-Tournament Team, held preseason workouts with 14 NBA teams prior to the draft. The Upper Marlboro, MD, native finished the 2023-24 season averaging 20.4 points per game which ranked third in the Big Ten and 29th nationally. His 2,626 career points were second-most among all active NCAA players. He posted a career-best 652 points this year which ranks 12th all-time for a single-season at Maryland. He is just the fifth player in Maryland history to reach 1,000 points in two seasons and the third fastest to do so needing just 57 games.
