CHICAGO (WGN) — Chef Tatianna Winters joined WGN’s Jewell Hillery on the Weekend Morning News to talk about the healthy food mission behind Englewood’s Peace of Mine Sweets and Spice, and make one of their delicious smoothies.

Peace of Mine Sweets and Spice aims to bring healthy food alternatives like smoothies, spices and healthy sandwiches to the South Side neighborhood that residents may not be used to seeing.

The restaurant’s mission is one that hits home for Chef Winters, who had a personal health journey of her own last year that was positively impacted by a change in her diet.

“Last year in February, basically, I experienced renal failure from Lupus Nephritis and I was placed on dialysis. I was actually being placed on the transplant list and I just made a decision to change my diet,” Winters said. “I was [on] completely raw [food] at the time, and 90 days into dialysis, I was actually removed from dialysis.”

Peace of Mine Sweets & Spice can be found on West 71st Street in Chicago’s Englewood neighborhood.
