Pro-Palestinian protesters gathered outside the AirTrain Jamaica Station at John F. Kennedy Airport in Queens. The protest prompted airport officials to issue a travel advisory, warning of potential disruptions to airport operations. Only ticketed passengers, airport employees with valid ID, and individuals with legitimate business at the airport are permitted entry to critical areas of the airport. Pro-Palestinian protesters gathered Wednesday outside the AirTrain Jamaica Station at John F. Kennedy Airport in Queens, prompting a travel advisory and restricted access measures. The demonstration, part of a larger protest movement, was reportedly organized in response to an alleged weapons shipment by Elbit Systems, an Israeli defense contractor, scheduled to depart from JFK at 2 PM, according to activists.
Protesters chanted slogans such as “Shut it down!” and “Globalize the Intifada!” as they blocked access near the tram entrance. At one point, tensions escalated when a passerby shouted at demonstrators to remove their masks, highlighting the growing friction between protesters and travelers.
The protest prompted airport officials to issue a travel advisory, warning of potential disruptions to airport operations and restricting access to the AirTrain station. Only ticketed passengers, airport employees with valid ID, and individuals with legitimate business at the airport, such as picking up travelers, are permitted entry to critical areas of the airport.
“Due to the possibility of protest activity today that could disrupt airport operations and the obligation to maintain good order for airport users, access to critical areas of the airport, including AirTrain JFK at Jamaica Station, will be restricted,” read the advisory.
Travelers are advised to arrive early and expect potential delays due to congestion around the AirTrain and terminal areas. The demonstration is the latest in a wave of pro-Palestinian protests across major US cities amid growing tensions surrounding US military aid to Israel.
