The Chicago Bulls are at a stalemate with restricted free agent Josh Giddey over contract talks this summer, and the team’s slow approach to negotiations could be creating added tension as the offseason progresses.

The 22-year-old is reportedly seeking a deal worth around $30 million annually, but the team appears hesitant to meet that price. With Giddey’s market seemingly limited outside of Chicago, the Bulls will likely take their time working out a new deal.

However, this ongoing standstill may impact his long-term future with the club. According to Ashish Mathur of Hoops Wire, Giddey is reportedly unhappy with how negotiations have unfolded.

Giddey could choose to accept his $11.1 million qualifying offer and bet on himself ahead of unrestricted free agency next offseason. While a sign-and-trade remains a potential route, his asking price may be too steep for other teams to engage.

“Thus far, no teams have contacted Giddey or the Bulls about sign-and-trade deals,” Mathur wrote.

Giddey was productive for Chicago in 2024-25 after being traded from the Oklahoma City Thunder in June 2024. He averaged 14.6 points, 8.1 rebounds, 7.2 assists, 1.5 three-pointers and 1.2 steals across 30.2 minutes per game in 70 regular-season appearances. The former No. 6 overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft also shot a career-high 37.8 percent from beyond the arc, showing significant improvement from his first three seasons in Oklahoma City.

While Giddey’s options remain limited for now, another strong season in the 2025-26 campaign could set him up for a lucrative deal next offseason.
