Kansas health officials share details of measles exposure at Wichita medical center
Officials say a measles exposure happened at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. It happened between 10 p.m. on Tuesday, July 1, and 4:45 p.M. on Thursday, July 3. Because of the highly contagious nature of the virus, anyone who was a patient, staff or visitor at the building should take precautionary steps.
The Kansas Department of Health and Environment said a measles exposure happened at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. It happened between 10 p.m. on Tuesday, July 1, and 4:45 p.m. on Thursday, July 3 in the fifth-floor pediatric unit of Building 4.
“There is no risk of measles exposure outside of this specific unit, dates and times listed,” officials said.
Officials said the measles virus can stay in the air and on surfaces for up to two hours. Because of the highly contagious nature of the virus, anyone who was a patient, staff or visitor at the building should take precautionary steps.

Those include checking if they’ve been vaccinated against measles and watching for symptoms, which include a fever or new or unexplained skin rash.
Officials asked anyone who was in those areas of Wesley Medical Center to avoid high-risk settings, such as large gatherings and people that could be susceptible, including pregnant woman, infants or immunocompromised.
