Local Klear Adventures launches translucent kayak and paddleboard rental business in Grand Marais

A recently launched kayak and paddleboard rental business in Grand Marais is giving locals and visitors a chance to paddle Lake Superior or inland lakes with a whole new perspective.

Klear Adventures, owned by Grand Marais resident Jacob Kelahan, offers daily and overnight rentals of translucent kayaks and paddleboards. Klear Adventures has a fleet of six paddleboards and four kayaks, offering solo and tandem options for the kayaks.

“I first saw these a few years ago shopping for my own kayaks and thought they would be cool to rent up here,” Kelahan said.

Kelahan will provide local pickup and dropoffs in Grand Marais, based out of the kayak launch in the Grand Marais Recreation Park. He will also offer transport to inland lakes or provide straps if an individual would like to transport the kayak or paddleboard themselves. The rentals come with paddles, lifejackets, dry bags, first aid kits, and safety whistles.

To establish and launch his business, Kelahan worked with Pete Mott at the local Small Business Development Center (SBDC). “Pete’s been very helpful, brainstorming ideas on how to get the word out and putting me in touch with people for helping with marketing, bookkeeping, things like that. It’s been greatly appreciated,” he said.
