Lincoln fast food restaurant crash causes over $10,000 in damages to the business
A 79-year-old woman driving a red Ford Explorer rear-ended her van, shattering its back windshield and sending it into the side of the building. The other woman was not taken to the hospital and has no apparent injuries. The van caused over $10,000 in damages to the business, police say.
Lincoln Fire and Rescue were called to Wendy’s near 48th and Van Dorn streets around 12:52 p.m.
According to Lincoln Police, a 50-year-old woman in a white Town Chrysler was in the drive-thru placing an order when a 79-year-old woman driving a red Ford Explorer rear-ended her van, shattering its back windshield and sending it into the side of the building. The van caused over $10,000 in damages to the business, police say.
The 79-year-old woman told police her vehicle was in park and her foot was on the brake when the engine began revving for no apparent reason before the Explorer accelerated forward and hit the van. She said her vehicle then continued to accelerate, pushing the van into the wall.
Although she reported no specific injury, she was transported by ambulance to a local hospital as a precaution. The other woman was not taken to the hospital and has no apparent injuries.
The 79-year-old woman did not receive a citation for the crash, according to police.
