LAWRENCE, Kan. (WIBW) – LMH Health was recognized by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas (BCBSKS) as a Blue Distinction Center for Knee and Hip Replacement.

Facilities designated as Blue Distinction Centers (BDC) demonstrate expertise in patient safety and deliver better health outcomes. Facilities must meet objective quality measures developed from the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association’s (BCBSA) partnership with the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) to be considered.

“At Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas, we are incredibly proud of our provider partners for their unwavering commitment to delivering exceptional care,” said Matt All, president/CEO of BCBSKS. “Each Blue Distinction Center is recognized for meeting rigorous quality standards, ensuring our members and all Kansans receive superior healthcare.”

According to a press release from LMH Health, designated knee and hip replacement facilities deliver high-quality care, with an average of 21% fewer readmissions and 21% fewer complications within 90 days after knee and hip replacement surgery.

“The entire team at OrthoKansas and LMH Health have worked together to maintain this designation and deserves significant credit. We’re proud to say the driving force behind this achievement is how much patient care matters to the total joint program,” said Dr. Adam Goodyear, orthopedic surgeon at OrthoKansas and LMH Health vice chief of staff. “This continued distinction is significant and evidence that OrthoKansas and LMH Health continue to be leaders in the region for quality and affordable total joint care. Lawrence and the entire region can continue to trust that they will receive the highest level of total joint care offered anywhere in the country, right here at home.”

Patients treated at designated facilities benefit from the expertise and advanced practices that lead to improved recovery times and reduced complications, making a significant difference in their overall health journey.

Among other criteria, to receive a designation, facilities must:

Have full accreditation from at least one national accrediting organization as either a hospital or ambulatory surgery center

Have low complication, mortality, and unplanned readmission rates within 90 days after elective primary total knee and hip replacements

Have enhanced recovery after surgery processes and procedures in place for quality perioperative care

Participate in BCBSKS BlueCard Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) Network
