Take Your Brat To Work Day kicks off Friday
The goal this year is to sell over 30,000 brats in just three hours. Last year’s festival included two days of rain and lightning, putting a damper on the festivities. More than $2.75 million has been donated to local charities since the start of the event. The event kicks off the World’s Largest Brat Fest, held every Memorial Day weekend since 1983, with more than 28,000 were sold last year.
Cars lined up well before the sun came up Friday, all ready to enjoy brats and support a good cause.
The famous Racing Sausages and Brat Man Tim Metcalfe opened up the Take Your Brat To Work Day line at Willow Island with a foot race at 6 a.m. Friday.
The person who was earliest in line told Tim Elliott that he got there at 3:30 a.m., and planned to pick up three brats.
Brat lovers showed up by car and by bike. One bicyclist, in full hot dog attire, told Phoebe Murray that he has biked in from Stoughton for several years, and bikes all the brats back for staff at Stoughton High School.
Office heroes and those picking up a bratty breakfast just for themselves had the choice of picking up hot sizzling Johnsonville brats, cheddar chicken brats, impossible brats and hot dogs.

Members of the The Morning Show were up bright and early to greet those in line. Phoebe Murray and Tim Elliott got extra festive in matching condiment costumes.
While she’s typically here to give you the news you need to know in the early evening, WMTV 15 News anchor Leigh Mills made sure to greet customers at Willow Island and thank them for supporting local charities.

The grand total of the day marked a huge success…

Dozens of volunteers were there to grill up brats for hungry customers.
Drivers could pick up Johnsonville brats, a Gilbert’s cheddar chicken brat, an Impossible plant-based brat, and a Boars Head one-quarter pound frankfurter- basically making them coworker of the year.
WMTV 15 News crews will also be volunteering throughout the weekend as celebrity cashiers at Brat Fest. If you stopped by Wednesday morning, you may have spotted WMTV’s Leigh Mills and Brooklyn Andres.
