L&S executive tapped to lead South Dakota Chamber
Budmayr is a former member of the South Dakota House of Representatives. He has been with the Chamber of Commerce for more than 20 years. He was named to the post in July. He will replace the outgoing David O’Neill. O’Neil will continue to work for the Chamber until he retires at the end of the year. The position will be filled by a new member, who will be announced later this month.
A new president and CEO has been named for the South Dakota Chamber of Commerce & Industry.
Ryan Budmayr, who most recently served as vice president of public relations and business development at L&S, was appointed to the role being vacated by David Owen, who is retiring after serving the organization since 1998.
“David has led this organization for more than a quarter of a century with impressive skill and vision, leaving an indelible mark on South Dakota’s business community,” Michael Bender, chairman of the organization, said in a statement. “We are thrilled to welcome Ryan, well-respected across the state, and his extensive experience and deep ties to South Dakota make him the ideal leader to build on David’s legacy and guide us into the future.”
Budmayr brings experience in business, public affairs and strategic communications in both the public and private sectors. He previously led business development at Lemonly and served as business development and international trade coordinator for the South Dakota Governor’s Office of Economic Development and as a personal aide to Gov. Dennis Daugaard.
“David’s impact on the South Dakota business community is unmatched, and I’m humbled to follow in his footsteps,” Budmayr said. “Businesses are the backbone of South Dakota’s success, and it’s more important than ever that they have a strong voice and a seat at the table. I look forward to working with our members, elected leaders and communities to ensure this state remains the best place in the country to live, work and grow a business.”
Budmayr will transition into his new role in early August.
“It has been the honor of a lifetime to serve South Dakota’s business community, elected public officials and professional public servants to solve challenging problems,” Owen said. “I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve built together, and I have full confidence that Ryan will bring energy, insight and passion to this role. The Chamber is in great hands.”
