Lehigh Valley International Airport is looking forward to a strong travel season after releasing May passenger traffic.
The Lehigh Northampton Airport Authority said that in May, 87,448 passengers traveled through Lehigh Valley International Airport, which is a 2.6% increase from the previous year.
“Summer vacations are starting earlier and earlier, with May becoming a strong indicator of that growth in activity at ABE. We anticipate another surge of passengers over the next months. Give yourself extra time and don’t forget a Real ID compliant document when traveling,” said Thomas R. Stoudt, executive director of the authority.
Of the airlines flying out of LVIA, Allegiant Air rose 7.6% and Delta Airlines increased 3.5%.
Meanwhile, United Airlines dipped 5.4% and American Airlines declined 7.5% from the previous May.
Cargo was also up at the airport.
A total of 28,688,681 pounds of air cargo was processed through Lehigh Valley International Airport (ABE) last month – an increase of 52.6% from May 2024.
“The significant growth comparable to last year has been the result of additional scheduled operations implemented by the air cargo carriers,” said Stoudt.
There was other big news at the airport.
Construction on the Courtyard Earlier this month, Airport Authority officials joined leaders from across the Lehigh Valley for a groundbreaking ceremony to commemorate the Courtyard by Marriott Hotel project at ABE.
The 145-room hotel will provide guests with amenities including: a bar/lounge, meeting space, fitness center, business center, onsite laundry, and an outdoor seating area.
“We know this market very well. A Courtyard by Marriott speaks to that person who’s staying, one, two, or three nights. The airport location is a good fit for that brand,” said Tom Reese, area vice president of Lodging Development.
