On Friday, July 18, the Lynchburg Regional Business Alliance and officially cut the ribbon to their Wiggington Road location, celebrating two years of service to the Central Virginia region.

The practice serves people 16 and older who are struggling with mental health, substance abuse or addiction. Right now, they have 1,700 patients.

We are fortunate to help them,” Dr. Sanket Dhat, CBH’s owner, said. “It was really needed in our area, to help patients with mental health struggles, because we have very limited providers in the Lynchburg community, especially with psychiatrists and psych nurse practitioners. I was with Centra before, for eight years, and I saw that need and wanted to do more, that’s why I started my own practice where I can serve more people and do what is right for them.

“Mental health is not just depression, schizophrenia, a mood disorder, anxiety; it has all of the things. We are trying to help patients where they are, rather than asking them to come to the place where we are,” Dr. Dhat said. “We serve patients with depression, especially treatment-resistant depression, where other psychiatrists or psych nurse practitioners, or primary care doctors, feel they’re stuck in their treatment.”

At Credence Behavioral Health, patients can take part in TMS (Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation) therapy or Sprovato, helping those with treatment-resistant depression.

We have some state-of-the-art treatments for patients here, the Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation as well as Esketamine,” Dr. Dhat said. “Some unique treatments and recent advancements in psychiatric health. I’m fortunate enough here to serve the community with those treatments.

Dr. Dhat said they take most types of insurance, helping to cut down on out-of-pocket costs.

“It’s hard on their pockets, especially with the economy, we do cover almost all commercial insurances as well as some of the VA insurances,” he said.

He said stigma often plays a major role when it comes to people reaching out for mental healthcare, and at CBH, they’re hoping to cut down on that as well.

Educating people about the stigma,” Dr. Dhat said. “Psychiatric conditions or disorders are nothing but the biological conditions, something similar to diabetes, where you don’t produce enough insulin in the body. The same way, when you’re struggling with depression or anxiety, or ADHD, your brain is not getting enough supply of the serotonin or dopamine, or something like that.
