The City of Oneida has opened a Cooling Center at the Kallet Civic Center on Main Street as of 12:00 p.m. Sunday. The Village of Canastota’s VFW on Canal Rd and the American Legion on S. Peterboro St. are offering meals to those displaced by flooding.
“We want to remind people to be cautious,” said Madison County Sheriff Todd Hood. “If you do not have to go anywhere than please avoid any unnecessary travel. If you do go out on the roads make sure you give yourself plenty of time, some roads are flooded. Remember to turn around, don’t drown. Never try to drive through flood waters, the waters can be deep and moving quickly.”
The county is asking residents not call 911 if you are out of power, unless lines are on your house or causing a fire. Instead, contact your power authority to indicate your outage. If you live in a flood zone please be prepared to leave your home if you need to.
This travel advisory does not restrict travel but urges motorists to limit driving due to hazardous conditions. If you are on the roads please take extreme caution, give yourself extra time to arrive at your destination in case you need to turn around and use another route.
