‘Man Up’ before it’s too late, QMG hosts free health screening for local men
The fifth annual Man Up Men’s Health Event took place on Saturday in Quincy. Event’s primary aim is to encourage men to take ownership of their health. Some care providers speculate the hesitancy to seek treatment may stem from financial uncertainty or a fear of burdening others.
The fifth annual Man Up Men’s Health Event took place on Saturday in Quincy’s South Park.
Specialists provided attendees with free health screenings including EKGs, blood pressure checks and lab tests for a number of conditions including prostate cancer, diabetes and high cholesterol. Several local businesses also offered resources and supplements to visitors.
Dr. Imran Shaikh, a group physician with QMG, explained the event’s primary aim is to encourage men to take ownership of their health.
Some care providers speculate the hesitancy to seek treatment may stem from financial uncertainty or a fear of burdening others.
“You might think in the moment that, ‘Oh, it’s not worth the money or it’s not worth the time,’ but at the end of the day, it’s going to be way more money and time down the road if you end up having a problem and someone has to take care of you,” Shaikh said.
Shaikh encourages local men to find a primary care provider and be open about symptoms, concerns and their health history.
