Mavericks not considered top landing spot for Lakers’ LeBron James
The Dallas Mavericks are one of four teams rumored to be interested in LeBron James. The other three are the Golden State Warriors, Cleveland Cavaliers, and Los Angeles Clippers. Basket News wrote that the Mavericks would be the least likely team to make a deal. The primary issue lies in their salary structure and the overall makeup of their roster. In order to match LeBron James’ contract, they would be forced to give up a significant number of players.
However, for other reasons, it may not be as easy for the Mavericks to finalize a deal.
Whether it be due to James not being available, having to move multiple core pieces, and other factors, Basket News recently wrote an article stating that they’d be the least likely option of the potential four rumored teams interested in his services.
The other three are the Golden State Warriors, Cleveland Cavaliers, and Los Angeles Clippers.
“In my opinion, the least likely trade to happen is the one involving the Dallas Mavericks. The primary issue lies in their salary structure and the overall makeup of their roster. In order to match LeBron James’ contract, the Mavericks would be forced to give up a significant number of players—possibly core rotation pieces—and the question naturally arises: why would they want to do that?
“Dallas already has a promising future, especially with Cooper Flagg on the way, and when fully healthy, they possess one of the deepest rosters in the league,” they wrote.

As they touched on, the Mavericks certainly have a deep roster, and when healthy, one could argue that it is a championship-level roster.
However, given all the mounting injuries the Mavericks have dealt with, it’s also fair to question whether that’s an actual possibility.
Landing James would be enticing for many reasons, but given his age and other factors, he might not be the perfect player at this stage of his career.
